Weekly Recap: I'm Drowning In A Sea of Books

Hey guys, it has been forever since my last post. Life has just been beyond hectic recently and I have just had zero time to do anything. It has been a ton of working and then endless social commitments. And, yes, I will totally have to admit to getting addicted to Pokemon Go and allowing it to take over my life. Ooooops!

I've had a week off from work, which has allowed me to catch up on a ton of things. So time to catch up on everything I have been up to since my last post.

Chapter 5 Proof Party: I was lucky enough to get invited to the Chapter 5 Proof Party that was held in London at the beginning of July. It was held on the top floor of The Old Crown Pub near Tottenham Court Station and was such a fun evening. There was books galore and author Jennifer L Armentrout came to talk about her books and sign any that people had brought along with them, or taken from the ones offered to us by the wonderful people at Chapter 5. I was extra excited to receive three amazing proofs: Replica by Lauren Oliver, Caraval by Stephanie Garber and Frostblood by Elly Blake.

My birthday: It was my birthday two weeks ago and I had an incredible day. I invited friends and family over for a barbecue and the day was perfect. The weather was beautiful, the food was tasty and the company was the best I could hope for. Plus they all knew me so well and gifted me a ton of Funkos! A bunch of us were still up at 2am playing games, drinking and devouring the leftovers from the day, I couldn't have asked for a better birthday.

Bookstagram: I have spoke a lot about my addiction to bookstagram. I can't stop myself, I just absolutely love it. I know a large part of the reason I haven't blogged is because I have been spending all my free time taking, editing and posting my bookstagram photos. And I have zero regrets, This month I hosted my first ever bookstagram monthly challenge and it was so much fun! I have loved seeing everyone's photos. It has also been wonderful to see all my hard work paying off, as my Instagram has grown so much over the last few weeks. I will be hosting another challenge this August, so if you are interested then definitely feel free to take part! I also hit a huge milestone on Instagram: 10,000 followers! So keep an eye out for a giveaway going up there soon!

London Film and Comic Con: As this post goes live, I will be at the second day of YALC and LFCC and I will probably be hot, sweaty, exhausted but super excited and having a wonderful time regardless. This is my third year attending and I am so excited. It's always so much fun. I get a ton of books and meet some amazing authors - this year I will get to meet V.E. Scwhab and Maggie Stiefvater! And I can't wait!!! I will also spend far too much money on bookish items and other things.

I am usually totally not embarassed by my hauls, but even I think this months is a little excessive! Ooops. I couldn't stop myself. A bunch of these were all sent by publishers, so that makes me feel less bad. And a lot of the ones I bought were on special. I got a ton in Waterstones Picaddily on sale, for £1 each, even for hardbacks. All the adorably cute Funkos are what family and friends bought me for my birthday, although I forgot to include Mrs Potts, Chip and Cogsworth.

I recently read Replica and found the format was so fascinating. This is a story where we have two main characters, Lyra and Gemma, and you can choose which story you want to read first. You can either start with Lyra's and then go to Gemma's or vice versa, or you could read them a chapter each or something completely different. Caraval and Frost Blood, as well as Replica, were ARCs I received at the Chapter 5 party and can't wait to read them. I have heard nothing but amazing things about Caraval and I will be getting to that asap. I received Things We Know By Heart, Frost Like Night and Aerie from the wonderful people at Harper 360. I am currently reading and loving Things We Know By Heart. Look out for my review on the 3rd August, as I am participating in the blog tour for it.

This Savage Song by V.E. Schwab, And I Darken by Kiersten White, Ivory and Bone by Julie Eshbaugh, My Lady Jane by Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton and Jodi Meadows, 5 to 1 by Holly Bodger

This Savage Song and My Lady Jane are two books I received in my most recent Owlcrate boxes and I am excited to read both. Ivory and Bone is another one that was sent to me by Harper 360 and I have heard a lot of good things about this one. And I Darken is one that I bought for myself as I love the sound of it, a gender-swapped retelling of Vlad the Impaler. 5 to 1 sounds really weird but it was £1 in Waterstones for the hardback, so I couldn't help myself.

A Small Free Kiss in the Dark is another one that I got for £1 and it actually looks really interesting, it is one I hope to read really soon and it looks like one I can read really quickly. Looking for JJ is one I have wanted to read for a long time, as I once read another book by the author that I loved. The Painted Man is a fantasy book that I won on Goodreads and I have seen some amazing reviews for it, so I am intrigued by that one. Oblivion and Half-Blood are two that I got at the Chapter 5 party. I now have two copies of Half-Blood, so I will probably give the spare away or donate it to work.

Obsidian, The Return and Don't Look Back were the others that I got from the Chapter 5 party. got to get all my JLA pretties signed by the author whilst I was there. I have spares for a few of these and will give them away. Lydia and Dear Charlie are two review copies I was sent recently and will be reading asap.

Queen of Hearts is one I bought myself on special in Waterstones Piccadilly, and I am intrigued by it but also nervous to read it. You Don't Know Me and The Castle were two more books I got for £1 from Waterstones. I read and loved the authors latest book, so I couldn't not pick these up and I really hope I love them. Lying About Last Summer and Two Summers were both on offer in ASDA and sounded interesting, so I picked them up - I can't stop myself, I have a huge book buying problem.

After You is another one I bought myself, I quite enjoyed Me Before You and curious to see what happens for Lou next. A Little In Love, Under Rose Tainted Skies and The Shadow Queen  are the others I bought on special in ASDA. United as One was sent to me by a publisher, even though I had let them know that I had only read book one in the series, but they seemed to want it to be shared on social media more than anything, so that is probably why they still sent it.

So that is my rather giant haul for the month of July... 31 books, which is exactly 1 book a day for the whole month. So that would explain how I have barely read any of them. All my time has been sucked up by work, social events or Pokemon Go. Hopefully I can get some reading done next month.

How was your reading month and haul? Did you get through a lot of books? Anything that you would recommend? And, most importantly, which of my books should I get to first?

Weekly Recap: Where I Basically Recap A Whole Month & Haul ALL The Books

I AM BACK! Yes, finally, it is happening. I have been absent from the blog for the longest time, what feels like months. It was more like a month to two, but it felt like almost a lifetime.
In that time I have:

  •  Missed my actual blogoversary, so I celebrated it this week instead. I am doing a giveaway to celebrate as well, so be sure to enter!
  • Had two weeks off work! HALLELUJAH! It was glorious, I got to do all the reading, all the sleeping and all the Netflix binging.
  • I devoured enough books to complete my Goodreads challenge of 100 books. I'm now at 116. Go me!
  • I went to awesome book events. I got to meet Jennifer Donnelly, who is a sweetheart; Julie Mayhew who was as wonderful as the last time, and Leigh Bardugo who is fucking hilarious! I adored her.
  • Got my outfit together for a Disney Halloween Party. I am going as human Ariel and I am far too excited! You can probably expect lots of pictures next week, where I show off my adorably terrible, but cheaply put together costume.
  • Acquired far too many books! So many that I am splitting the haul. I am also running out of shelf space... And I have seven bookshelves.
  • I started a Book Tube channel and posted a few videos! I have actually had a lot of fun doing these, even if they take a lot of time.
  • I got sick... SUPER SICK! And I felt like I was dying. But I am all better now! Hurray for me!

Monthly Recap: May 2015

I can't really do much of a recap on blog posts because, let's be honest, there haven't been any. I feel like I can't even call myself a blogger any more. I've posted two things in the entirety of May, which is absolutely ridiculous. I love my blog and I enjoy doing it, I'm just far too exhausted at the minute and have far less time to dedicate to it. Plus I'm struggling with other things. But I WILL get back on top of it.... eventually Just bear with me!

This month has been rather amazing for the events I've got to go to and all the amazing books I've got my hand on. The month might have been awful in every other way, but at least that all worked out. First I got to go to the filming of QI, which was absolutely amazing. I can't express just how excited and fan girly I got about the fact I was sitting three rows away from STEPHEN FRY! Oh, how I love that man. Plus I adore Bill Bailey and he was one of the guests on that day too.

Monthly Recap: October

I'm starting to feel like I'm 73 and not 23. I can barely remember this month at all. I've had some stresses at work, but balanced with fun times with the boyfriend and my family. I've been able to make time for reading, but not spent as much time blogging. I've been saving for Christmas and trying to come up with ideas for presents for every one. I've been sick this last week, so that's sucked, but it has meant I could spend time reading. And I finally finished my Goodreads challenge and read 100 books this year. It's not going to be my best reading year, but I am happy with that.

October

I read 14 books.

I've read 14 books, which has been the most I've managed in a month for a long time. If I am completely honest, it's only been a good month quantity wise, not quality! I have had some terrible reads this month, the worst being Grave Mercy, The Maze Runner, Exquisite Captive and Love and Other Unknown Variables. My average rating was 3.1/5, which basically means that it was a mediocre reading month. I only had one 5/5 read, but it was an amazing one and well worth the rest of the rubbish. That book was All the Bright Places by Jennifer Niven, which is due out in January, I recommend you all add it to your TBR or get to it right away if you have an ARC.

Reviewed on blog:

Falling into Place by Amy Zhang 3.5/5
Four: A Divergent Collection by Veronica Roth 3/5
Atlantia by Ally Condie 3/5
A Little Something Different by Sandy Hall 3/5
In a Handful of Dust by Mindy McGinnis 4/5
Timebomb by Scott K. Andrews 3/5
Grave Mercy by Robin LaFevers 2/5
The Maze Runner by James Dashner 2/5
The Geography of You and Me by Jennifer E. Smith 3/5

I managed to post 9 reviews this month, and plan to have the 10th up later today. Two were mini-reviews but I am still pleased with that number. It was another average review month too, with an average rating of 2.9/5. That's actually really bad, I am in serious need of some exceptional reads!!!!

Monthly Recap: September

This month has had it's ups and downs. I really needed the mini-break away from work and the blog that I gave myself. I spent six days, mostly indoors, relaxing, reading and spending time with the boyfriend. It helped me feel a lot better and I wasn't as stressed afterwards. It made going back to work even harder but I have three weeks off to look forward to at Christmas. The break allowed me to read a lot more than usual. I had more time on my hands and felt calmer which made reading a lot easier for me.

August

I read 12 books.

Monthly Recap: August

I can't even sum up this month in words. This about sums it up:

It's funny because it's true.

August

I read 8 books.
I bought 14 books.

Monthly Recap: July

I know this recap is really late but I'd been struggling with blogging recently and have only finally gotten back into it. I took a week off from the blog, that ended up being almost two weeks long. I didn't get any posts planned in that time but I did manage to read a few books. My reading slump was terrible at the start of July, but, thanks to the Throne of Glass series, I had gotten out of it by the end of the month.

July was a busy month, what with YALC, my birthday and getting a new kitten. YALC was the first ever Young Adult Literary Convention in the UK, and it was beyond amazing. I purchased a ton of books and met a lot of fantastic authors and had such a fun time. I can't wait for next year, I'll definitely be attending again. Getting a new kitten was also really exciting and I absolutely love her, she's just so adorable and I can't get enough of her.

July

I read 7 books.

I think July has been my worst reading month since I started blogging. The slump was really terrible at the start of the month, I think it took  me over a week to finish one book at one point. I was really saved by the decision to start the Throne of Glass series, it was amazing and yanked me straight out of my reading slump.

Reviewed on blog:

Ruby Red by Kerstin Gier 2/5 Butterflies
Pivot Point by Kasie West 4/5 Butterflies
Split Second by Kasie West 4/5 Butterflies
Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas 4.5/5 Butterflies
Crown of Midnight by Sarah J. Maas 4.5/5 Butterflies

I only posted 5 reviews in July because I took a few weeks off from blogging. Ruby Red turned out to be a huge disappointment and I gave up on the series after that. Pivot Point and Split Second were both really great, Kasie West never disappoints. Sarah J. Maas just blew me away with her young adult fantasy series, I am addicted to it and just can't get enough.

First In A Series Challenge

My goal is to start 20 series this year.

So far I have started 22 series.

This month I added Throne of Glass, The Kiss of Deception and Boomerang. I have surpassed the amount that I wanted to start so I am pretty pleased with myself.

This is the part where I share the love for other posts I saw over the month and loved.

Jean @ Happy Indulgence talked about book endings and whether they change your opinion on a book/series. They do for me. *cough* Allegiant *cough*

Cait @ Notebook Sister's talked about unlikeable characters and how to do it right.

Mari & The Sirenic Codex also pondered whether characters need to be likeable to be alive.

Zoe @ The Book Life discussed formats and what she prefers.

Amanda @ Book Badger showed us all the different ships she ships.

Mel @ The Daily Prophecy talked about being socially awkward, something I can definitely relate too.

Aly @ My Heart Hearts Books discussed ridiculously long book titles and how long is too long.

Emily @ The Loony Teen Writer talked about the problems with rating books.

Allie @ Little Birdie Books perfectly addressed how much I hate when book hype lies to you.

Kat @ Cuddlebuggery showed you how to tell your co-bloggership is all kinds of wrong.

Larissa @ YA Midnight Reads wrote the most hilarious post about how to become a bestselling YA author.

Dre @ Sporadic Reads discussed what to do when commenting becomes a chore.

Awesome on the Internet

This is usually where I post other awesome things I have found on the internet. I just became hideously addicted to booktubers, but I will share those next month. What I really want to share is the Thunderclap tweet campaign for Abigail Haas's next book, Dangerous Boys. I read and reviewed it, I thought it was absolutely brilliant. Her first book, Dangerous Girls, was a huge success with readers but didn't do that well commercially. These books need more support so please if you could sign up for the Thunderclap that would be AMAZING!

Monthly Recap: June

June saw me slip into an even worse reading slump then May. How am I going to get out of it? HOW? Seriously, how, because I am struggling so much and have no energy or motivation to read right now. I will read an amazing 5/5 read and think I'll finally be out of my slump, but then still struggle to pick up my next book. It's not fun.
I haven't had a busy month, I have tried to get better at scheduling but any progress I finally made will be a bit useless while I'm away. I will miss out on 5 days of blogging, which is how many days ahead I am at. So by the time I get back I will be right back to having no scheduled posts. How do people schedule posts? I am pretty sure they are all magic.

June

I read 9 books.

I am not exactly thrilled at this because I wanted to beat last month. Last month I also read 9. Well, at least I'm consistent.

Reviewed on blog:

Now and Forever by Susane Colasanti 0.5/5
Scarlet by Marissa Meyer 4/5
The Winner's Curse by Maria Rutkoski 5/5
The Truth About Alice by Jennifer Mathieu 5/5
My Last Kiss by Bethany Neal 2/5
Dangerous Boys by Abigail Haas 4.5/5
#scandal by Sarah Ockler 2/5
The Fault in Our Stars by John Green 4/5
On the Fence by Kasie West 5/5

My average rating this month has also ended up being the same as last month, weird. My average rating is 3.5/5. This month also includes amazing reads from Abigail Haas and Kasie West, like last month. So it is very similar in a lot of ways. I really enjoyed The Winner's Curse, can't wait to continue that series. I highly recommend Dangerous Girls and Dangerous Boys by Abigail Haas, and adore Kasie West's books - she writes the most amazing characters.
