My Weekly Book Haul: 14/02/2015

I have been failing at blogging, reading and everything internet related.... except Instagram and buying books online. I just haven't been able to concentrate on anything recently, I think I'm still freaking out about the fact I'll be starting my new job soon, and this time I'll be a manager and in charge of other human beings - that's a scary thought! I am hoping to take a week or two off between leaving my current job and starting my new one. In that time I'm hoping to catch up on some reading, actually schedule some posts (I'm laughing whilst typing that!), as well as play some games, watch a ton of TV and relax a whole lot!

I'm starting to realise that I have a very serious book buying problem. My owned TBR pile is more like two whole bookcases now, with books stacked up to the top. But I can't stop!!! I really should, but I can't. This week alone I have bought 6 books in a 3 for 2 deal at WHSmith, 6 books I really don't need and weren't really desperate for. I then had four review copies show up, as well as 8 books I've bought online and one I bought in Asda. I NEED TO STOP! The books all go to my parents house, so my dad is starting to threaten that he'll just throw them in the bin when they arrive. I think he's joking. I hope he's joking. Yeah, he's probably not joking.

I'm linking up with Tynga's Stacking the Shelves.

"How odd to be made of flesh, balanced on bone, and filled with a soul you've never met."
Charlize Wynwood and Silas Nash have been best friends since they could walk. They've been in love since the age of fourteen.
But as of this morning...they are complete strangers.
Their first kiss, their first fight, the moment they fell in love...every memory has vanished.
"I don't care what our real first kiss was," he says. "That's the one I want to remember."
Charlize and Silas must work together to uncover the truth about what happened to them and why. But the more they learn about the couple they used to be...the more they question why they were ever together to begin with.
"I want to remember what it feels like to love someone like that. And not just anyone. I want to know what it feels like to love Charlie."
This is naughty considering I already own it on my kindle and haven't even read that copy yet. But they announced the paperback after I'd already bought the kindle copy, and I'd rather own it. It's Hoover, so I'm almost 100% sure I'll love the crap out of it.

Wicked (A Wicked Saga, #1)Things are about to get Wicked in New Orleans. Twenty-two year old Ivy Morgan isn’t your average college student. She, and others like her, know humans aren’t the only thing trolling the French Quarter for fun… and for food. Her duty to the Order is her life. After all, four years ago, she lost everything at the hands of the creatures she’d sworn to hunt, tearing her world and her heart apart. Ren Owens is the last person Ivy expected to enter her rigidly controlled life. He’s six feet and three inches of temptation and swoon-inducing charm. With forest-green eyes and a smile that’s surely left a stream of broken hearts in its wake, he has an uncanny, almost unnatural ability to make her yearn for everything he has to offer. But letting him in is as dangerous as hunting the cold-blooded killers stalking the streets. Losing the boy she loved once before had nearly destroyed her, but the sparking tension that grows between them becomes impossible for Ivy to deny. Deep down, she wants… she needs more than what her duty demands of her, what her past has shaped for her. But as Ivy grows closer to Ren, she realizes she’s not the only one carrying secrets that could shatter the frail bond between them. There’s something he’s not telling her, and one thing is for certain. She’s no longer sure what is more dangerous to her—the ancient beings threatening to take over the town or the man demanding to lay claim to her heart and her soul.

I'm planning a really big JLA binge read soon. I want to do the whole Lux series, Covenant series and start all her other ones as well.

On the Fence
For sixteen-year-old Charlotte Reynolds, aka Charlie, being raised by a single dad and three older brothers has its perks. She can outrun, outscore, and outwit every boy she knows—including her longtime neighbor and honorary fourth brother, Braden. But when it comes to being a girl, Charlie doesn't know the first thing about anything. So when she starts working at chichi boutique to pay off a speeding ticket, she finds herself in a strange new world of makeup, lacy skirts, and BeDazzlers. Even stranger, she's spending time with a boy who has never seen her tear it up in a pickup game.To cope with the stress of faking her way through this new reality, Charlie seeks late-night refuge in her backyard, talking out her problems with Braden by the fence that separates them. But their Fence Chats can't solve Charlie's biggest problem: she's falling for Braden. Hard. She knows what it means to go for the win, but if spilling her secret means losing him for good, the stakes just got too high.
I've already read and reviewed this one, which you can read here if you're interested. But I found a brand new copy for just over £2 online and had to have it for my shelf.

Slammed (Slammed, #1)Layken's father died suddenly, leaving her to gather every ounce of strength to be a pillar for her family, in order to prevent their world from falling apart. Now her life is taking another unexpected turn...Layken's mother gets a job which leads to an unwanted move across the country. However, a new home means new neighbours... and Layken's new neighbour is the very attractive Will Cooper. Will has an intriguing passion for slam poetry, and a matching passion for life. The two feel an irresistible attraction but are rocked to the core when a shocking revelation brings their romance to a screeching halt. Layken and Will must find a way to fight the forces that threaten to tear them apart...or learn to live without each other.

Another one I have already read, but I want to own all the Hoover books. I have the next two in the series on the way as well.

ErasedAfter fleeing the Branch with Sam, Cas, and Nick, Anna is learning how to survive in hiding, following Sam's rules: Don't draw attention to yourself. Always carry a weapon. Know your surroundings. Watch your back. When memories from Anna's old life begin to resurface--and a figure from her childhood reappears--Anna's loyalties are tested. Is it a Branch set-up, or could it be the reunion Anna has hoped for? Ultimately, the answers hinge on one question: What was the real reason her memories were erased in the first place?Jennifer Rush delivers a thrilling sequel to Altered in a novel packed with mysteries, lies, and surprises that are sure to keep readers guessing until the last page is turned.

I own the first but have not read it yet, I'm that kind of book buyer! I just saw it for super cheap online and so grabbed it whilst it was so cheap.

In a Handful of Dust (Not a Drop to Drink, #2)The only thing bigger than the world is fear.Lucy’s life by the pond has always been full. She has water and friends, laughter and the love of her adoptive mother, Lynn, who has made sure that Lucy’s childhood was very different from her own. Yet it seems Lucy’s future is settled already—a house, a man, children, and a water source—and anything beyond their life by the pond is beyond reach. When disease burns through their community, the once life-saving water of the pond might be the source of what’s killing them now. Rumors of desalinization plants in California have lingered in Lynn’s mind, and the prospect of a “normal” life for Lucy sets the two of them on an epic journey west to face new dangers: hunger, mountains, deserts, betrayal, and the perils of a world so vast that Lucy fears she could be lost forever, only to disappear in a handful of dust.In this companion to Not a Drop to Drink, Mindy McGinnis thrillingly combines the heart-swelling hope of a journey, the challenges of establishing your own place in the world, and the gripping physical danger of nature in a futuristic frontier.

I've read and reviewed this before, you can read the review here. I want it for my shelf because I love the series and the authors writing is so beautiful!

The Burning Sky (The Elemental Trilogy, #1) The Perilous Sea (The Elemental Trilogy, #2)
It all began with a ruined elixir and a bolt of lightning.Iolanthe Seabourne is the greatest elemental mage of her generation—or so she's been told. The one prophesied for years to be the savior of The Realm. It is her duty and destiny to face and defeat the Bane, the most powerful tyrant and mage the world has ever known. This would be a suicide task for anyone, let alone a reluctant sixteen-year-old girl with no training.Guided by his mother's visions and committed to avenging his family, Prince Titus has sworn to protect Iolanthe even as he prepares her for their battle with the Bane. But he makes the terrifying mistake of falling in love with the girl who should have been only a means to an end. Now, with the servants of the tyrant closing in, Titus must choose between his mission—and her life.

Found both hardbacks super cheap and HAD to have them!

All Fall Down (Embassy Row #1)
Grace can best be described as a daredevil, an Army brat, and a rebel. She is also the only granddaughter of perhaps the most powerful ambassador in the world and Grace has spent every summer of her childhood running across the roofs of Embassy Row.Now, at age sixteen, she's come back to stay - in order to solve the mystery of her mother's death. In the process, she uncovers an international conspiracy of unsettling proportions, and must choose her friends and watch her foes carefully if she and the world are to be saved.

The Return (Titan, #1)A year ago, Seth made a deal with the gods - and pledged his life to them. Now, Apollo has a task for Seth: one which sees him playing protector over a beautiful, feisty girl who's strictly off-limits. And for someone who has a problem with restraint, this assignment might be Seth's most challenging yet.Josie has no idea what this crazy hot guy's deal is, but he arrives in her life just as everything she's ever known is turned upside down. Either she's going insane, or a nightmare straight out of ancient myth is heading her way.Josie can't decide which is more dangerous: an angry Titan seeking vengeance? Or the golden-eyed, secretive Seth - and the white-hot attraction developing between them...

This is a companion series to the Covenant series, hence why I am hoping to binge read that very soon.

Those Above (The Empty Throne, #1)They enslaved humanity three thousand years ago. Tall, strong, perfect, superhuman and near immortal they rule from their glittering palaces in the eternal city in the centre of the world. They are called Those Above by their subjects. They enforce their will with fire and sword.

Twenty five years ago mankind mustered an army and rose up against them, only to be slaughtered in a terrible battle. Hope died that day, but hatred survived. Whispers of another revolt are beginning to stir in the hearts of the oppressed: a woman, widowed in the war, who has dedicated her life to revenge; the general, the only man to ever defeat one of Those Above in single combat, summoned forth to raise a new legion; and a boy killer who rises from the gutter to lead an uprising in the capital.
It is hard to describe how absolutely stunning this book is in person. You need to go find it in a bookstore and admire it!

The CatalystRose Elmsworth has a secret. For eighteen years, the world has been divided into the magically Gifted and the non-magical Ashkind, but Rose's identity is far more dangerous. At fifteen, she has earned herself a place alongside her father in the Department, a brutal law-enforcement organisation run by the Gifted to control the Ashkind. But now an old enemy is threatening to start a catastrophic war, and Rose faces a challenging test of her loyalties. How much does she really know about her father's past? How far is the Department willing to go to keep the peace? And, if the time comes, will Rose choose to protect her secret, or the people she loves?
The author wrote the first draft when she was 13!!!! And now she's got a beautiful published book out and she's only 15. Seriously, what the fuck am I doing with my life? Thanks Hodder for all these beautiful finished copies.

Four years have passed since Justin Campbell’s disappearance, a tragedy that rocked the small town of Southport, Texas. Did he run away? Was he kidnapped? Did he drown in the bay? As the Campbells search for answers, they struggle to hold what’s left of their family together. Then, one afternoon, the impossible happens. The police call to report that Justin has been found only miles away, in the neighboring town, and, most important, he appears to be fine. Though the reunion is a miracle, Justin’s homecoming exposes the deep rifts that have diminished his family, the wounds they all carry that may never fully heal. Trying to return to normal, his parents do their best to ease Justin back into his old life. But as thick summer heat takes hold, violent storms churn in the Gulf and in the Campbells’ hearts. When a reversal of fortune lays bare the family’s greatest fears—and offers perhaps the only hope for recovery—each of them must fight to keep the ties that bind them from permanently tearing apart.

I'm really intrigued by this one! I hope I love it. Thanks to Two Roads for this one!

I'm currently running a UK only giveaway for a review copy of The Sin Eater's Daughter, as well as an international giveaway to win a finished copy. Get entering!

  5. When my physical tbr list hit 950 books in September I knew I had to take action! Too many freebies on the ereaders plus 5 overflowing bookcases in the house! That was WAY out of control so I started to tackle it straight away. Now my tbr stands at just over 550 and I'm feeling much happier! Trust me, tackle it while it's still manageable. Target the shortest books as you can read them quicker and it helps reduce the pile.

  6. I feel the same way…I have so many books sitting there staring at me and I keep buying more. And more. Oh well, I guess it's a good problem to have, too many great books to read.

Yes!! Binge read JLA. Lux and Covenant series…they are so good! If I had to choose I would choose the Covenant series and especially since you have The Return…read that one first. Can't wait to hear what you think!

I hadn't heard of Those Above but it sounds AMAZING…adding it to my getting even longer TBR list.

    Have fun reading! ~Pam

  14. All Fall Down is a book that looks good to me and I would love to read! I have never tried a Colleen Hoover book as well, although it sounds like there are some good books of hers that I need to try. I would love to start with Ugly Love, because I haven't heard a lot of positive things about Never Never yet >.< Oh, and the review book The Catalyst looks pretty cool! I like the looks of things here.

  17. Oh boy, I can relate, it is so very hard to control the book buying! But alas, I have had to cave and restrict myself to a budget. Perhaps you can try challenging yourself with if you read a certain amount of books then you can buy just one book? I've seen many ideas lately...
