Weekly Recap: I Have a TBR Castle

I skipped one week of hauls because I had barely any books and then suddenly I went home and had a pile of packages almost as tall as me. I am drowning in books. Some of the review books sent to me were super random too, so not sure what to make of them. Since my last recap post a lot has happened as well, so be warned.

First off, I had so many issues with my bank that just led to so much stress. I had my bank account compromised and thousands in transactions was trying to be taken out. My bank declined most of them but let about £400 worth of payments to go through. Then I had to wait over two weeks to get that money back. It was so frustrating and my bank were not helpful at all. So I gave up and am now switching banks, which actually ended up benefiting me as they offer you money to switch.

I then got crapped over all over again last Sunday, when I woke up to an email from Blogger saying they had deleted my blog. As you are currently reading this ON MY BLOG, you can probably guess that I've since got that sorted. But it was very upsetting at the time to wake up and find my blog just GONE. For no reason. Sucks. So, be warned, if you have a Blogger account. They have an automated system that takes blogs down and it accidentally deletes blogs regularly. Luckily you should be able to get it back. Does make me want to figure out how to go self hosted.

I counted my books last weekend and almost died of a heart attack when I counted up and realised I had 1,127 books physically sitting on my shelves. I didn't realise I had over 1,000. I thought I was at about 900, so I was well off. I am a little scared that this is the size of it now... how big will it be in a few years! I'm adding another 15 to that number just in this haul alone. My fiance argues I have too many books, but I don't know if such a thing actually exists. You can never have too many books. I can build myself a book fort, or an actual book house, with furniture made from books.

The other thing that has happened since my last catch up is the fact I have become obsessed with Hamilton : The Musical. IT IS INCREDIBLE! I have the album and have basically just been listening to it on repeat and nothing else. I highly recommend. It's supposed to be coming to the West End next year and I can't wait. I will be getting tickets, even if I have to sell a kidney or something to afford them. I WILL BE GOING!!! I saw there was a Hamilton Book Tag so I knew I had to do it, it was a lot of fun.

I am now much happier as my blog is back and my money is now back in my account. I've also been having a good week at work, which has really helped. My sister also just got back from Disneyland Paris and got me the most adorable Todd and Copper teddies. I was so happy, I really wanted these as you can't get them over here. And to top it all off I have had some amazing book mail. And I will also be attending an event tonight to meet Pierce Brown and get all my books signed. And... to make it even better, I also get to go to a party with him on Monday at Hodder publishing house... WOOP! I am excited, but also super nervous. I have anxiety and so events like this are my actual worst nightmare. I was relying on bringing the fiance as a plus one, but I don't think we can... so I am currently freaking out. I don't want to miss out but the anxiety right now is so bad I may actually vomit. NOT GOOD >.<

Morning Star by Pierce Brown, Riders by Veronica Rossi, Every Move by Elie Marney, The Lie Tree by Frances Hardinge & The Man in the High Castle by Philip K. Dick

I have a review copy of Morning Star but I HAD to get a hardback finished copy! Especially since I will be meeting Pierce Brown and getting him to sign them. I'll be getting the ARC signed too. I also have the first book in hardback on order, I just really hope it arrives before the party on Monday. I loved Rossi's Under the Never Sky series, so I knew I would have to read her latest YA novel. Every Move is the third in the series. I just finished book one and I loved it, I might be a little bit obsessed with Mycroft and Watts - those two are adorable! The Lie Tree and The Man in the High Castle were on special and I want to read both, so I grabbed them both.

The Winner's Kiss by Marie Rutkoski

This gets to be all by itself because I am so excited to be able to read this. I can't wait to get to this. I'm currently rereading book one, I plan to binge read all three together. And it will be glorious! I really hope Arin and Kestrel get a happy ending, otherwise I might cry.

Whisper to Me by Nick Lake, Radio Silence by Alice Oseman, The Reaction by Helena Coggan, The Power by Jennifer L. Armentrout & Missing Pieces by Heather Gudenkauf

Whisper to Me is one that Bloomsbury sent to me and I am very excited for it, sounds like a great contemporary. Radio Silence is another review copy that I requested and am really looking forward to getting to it. The next two, The Reaction and The Power weren't ones I requested, but the publishers sent me the first two for review as well, so I guess I should get to these series as some point. I love Heather Gudenkauf, so I was super happy to accept a review copy of her new one. She writes books that are similar to Jodi Picoult, who is a favourite author of mine.

The Other Side of Silence by Linda Gask, The Last Kiss Goodbye by Tasmina Perry, Never Tear Us Apart by Monica Murphy, An Ounce of Hope by Sophie Jackson & Heartsong Cottage by Emily March

The Other Side of Silence is a psychiatrists memoir on her experience dealing with depression, I am excited for that one. As someone who suffers from depression and anxiety, I think it will be nice to read about someone else's experience and how they handle it. The other four review copies are so random. An Ounce of Hope I kind of understand as I know they sent me book one and I read and reviewed it. The other three are ones I will give to a woman at work who I know will read them.

  1. Sounds like it was a horrible week but then at least there were some factors that made it marginally better? I still can't believe blogger does that and you've made ME so frightened that I sort of want to be self hosted as well. Just gotta work out and learn how to achieve that. I can't believe the issue with the bank as well. I hate it when things like that happen to people and those with the authority to fix them sort of don't care and take forever to help... if they ever do in the end.

BUT at least you got some pretty worthy books! Over a thousand is so many, so you better get reading to justify why you have them all :D

  2. Oh, that is a horrible week! At least there were some positives to it though! I totally understand what you mean about anxiety and events. It sucks! I hope you're feeling well enough to go! Enjoy your new books!

  3. I hadn't heard about blogger doing that-and now I'm a bit worried about all the work I put into my blog. Why would it do that? I just don't get it! As for banks, dealing with them sends my stress levels up through the roof. I can fully understand why people decide to keep their money at home instead. I'm glad you got everything sorted though and I hope this week is less stressful!

  4. I just started reading The Winner's Curse and finished it last night and I am going to SCREAM if my Amazon order of book two doesn't arrive soon, and argh yes I agree, Arin and Kestrel had better have a HEA somehow.

I'm glad you got the blog back; I thought you probably would if some sort of automatic process reported it or whatever. But it was nervewracking!

Also, I have about the number of books that you have... just unread. I must have more than that altogether by several hundred. Whaaa.

Oh, and I liked The Lie Tree, though Cuckoo Song and A Face Like Glass are my favourites by Frances Hardinge!

    My STS.

  5. I'm happy you got your blog back! It never happened to me when I was on Blogger, but I switched during a time where tons of blogs had problems with them. I haven't even started The Winner's Curse yet, which I should because i have a gorgeous hardback on my shelves.

  6. Oh god! Sounds like a most trying time! And I've heard horror stories of blogger doing things like this. But sadly, I'm one of those technology challenged kind of people. I mean I know some things, but not much when it comes to computers and such things as websites. I am totally clueless, so that's why I've stuck with blogger all these years. Glad things were sorted out though.

Great haul!! I see lots of books that are on my TBR list and are for the most part preordered already! Hope you enjoy all the new reads!

My STS will be up tomorrow, so stop by then if you can!

    Have a GREAT day!

  7. That so sucks about your bank account- it happened to us several years ago, but we have a credit union instead of a bank, and they were super helpful in getting it fixed right away. I've also heard that blogger deletes blogs randomly, and it happened to another blogger friend of mine. It almost caused her to quit blogging because she was so overwhelmed. Thankfully her blogging bestie has a husband who's a computer genius and he got it back up for her, but yeah, she switched platforms. I did too, but it was because I was super angry that Google Reader ceased to exist.

And no, you cannot have too many books (although, I have to admit, it's nice to know that there's bloggers out there who's physical TBRs put mine to shame (I only have about 400). :)

I am so excited for you to binge read The Winner's Curse trilogy! Also a little jealous, since I'm having to wait until the third book gets released. While I'm super glad to have read the first two already, there's something to be said about getting to read all three back to back.

  8. I'm sorry that you've had such a nightmare week with your bank, it must be very stressful and so I really hope it's sorted out soon for you.

I know what it's like to realise how massive your TBR is - I'm scared to admit how big my TBR mountain is! I need to get it under control one of these days though.

Hope you enjoy all your new books!

Thanks for stopping by my post earlier: https://rathertoofondofbooks.wordpress.com/2016/02/20/weekly-wrap-up-and-stacking-the-shelves-20-february/

  9. Ah, I'm really sorry to hear you've head such a craptastic week! It all sounds incredibly stressful and I hope everything gets sorted out soon!
You do have a MASSIVE book haul! *eyes pop* haha. I need to get Riders (I'm really anticipating that one) and you have The Power!!! I want to read that beauty so bad. I love Jennifer Armentrout's books, and I have no doubt that The Power is going to be so much fun to read :)

  11. I wanna get Riders at some point too! Might have to wait a little but sometime I'm getting it for sure. :)

    Happy Reading!

  12. Well I'm certainly happy that your blog is back up! Even though that was shit scary, at least it was an accidental delete and not someone reporting you because that would have been the worse.
And you got your money back. Thank God!
Great haul! I hope you have better luck with Riders. I read it last year and it was pretty boring.
The Power! Awesome! I'd say I'm jealous, but it comes out on Tuesday, so it's almost in my hands. :D Now I know you haven't read her Half-Blood series, which you do need to before reading The Return and The Power as it's a spin-off of that series with one of the main characters. I guess you don't have to, but it would make a lot more sense if you read it first. Lol

  13. I'm soooo glad you got your blog back. xD But totally why I'm happy I'm self-hosted now. XDXD I mean, I'm sure things could still go wrong there?? Because the internet is a fiendish place and likes to gobble the things we love. TRAGIC BUT TRUE. Ahem.

OMGGGG MEETING PIERCE BROWN AND EVERYTHING EEEEP!!! I hope you do get to go, but I would totally be hiding under my bed with anxiety, so I understand that too. *pats shoulder* *feeds you encouraging chocolate*

Also you don't have too many books if you still have, like, a floor. If you can't see your floor because it's covered in books...then you don't have enough floor. <-- AKA NEVER TOO MANY BOOKS. XD

Also I'm so glad you love Mycroft and Watts! <3 THOSE TWO. I FREAKING LOVE THEM. SHIP! SHIP!

  14. I'm so jealous you have Riders. I need to get a physical copy as I love the cover. That's a lot of books but hey, there are worse habits. I have The Lie Tree too and have high hopes for it. Enjoy your books.

  15. I LOVE HAMILTON SO MUCH TOO. I think my favorite song is "Satisfied" but I also love all the songs from the King and also "The Election of 1800". IT'S JUST ALL SO GOOD. There's actually a book tag for it created by maureenkeavy-I did it a week or two ago and it was fun! I also got a copy of Whisper to Me. It sounds great!

  18. I would totally freak if my blog had been deleted - so glad you got it back! That's so exciting about the Pierce Brown signing and the party. I get really bad anxiety so I totally understand how you feel! It's like you want to go because you know it's going to be an awesome experience but...anxiety. Good luck! <3

I got Radio Silence to review and I'm nearly 100 pages in and really enjoying it - I hope you do too!

    Enjoy your new books! :)

  19. I've heard so many good things about Morning Star! I need to read this series, for sure! I haven't jumped on the Hamilton thing either! Honestly, I didn't even know what it was until a few weeks ago!

If I got an email like that about my blog, I would FREAK.OUT! haha Have a great week!

  20. I had Blogger but didn't really like it so I switched to free WordPress which was great! But my blog got taken down for a few days so I finally decided to get self-hosted and I feel so free now! I started with RFE Hosting but they had started to fail so I finally switched to Book Host and it's the best decision I've ever made!!! I mean, you get all the book plugins for free!!!

I so want to read Red Rising! I keep seeing this series EVERYWHERE!! I hope to buy it soon.

In case you didn't know, Taylor Swift saved the day with a fabulous lyric that matches your TBR pile fabulously!
