Weekly Recap: I'm a Stressed Human This Week

thecomebackhbo tv hbo wow lisa kudrow
In all honesty, I have had such a stressful week and I am so looking forward to this long weekend... I need it! My work week has been pretty shitty and it's hard to really pinpoint exactly why. Some of the people I work with are getting on my last nerve, to the point where I just dread having to spend the day with them. I'm also not happy there in general as it doesn't challenge me enough. I love to be busy at work, but here I am just struggling to find something to do. I know I'd be a lot happier if there was more work to do.

The other big stress for me this week is that my fiance's brother has moved in with us. He used to live here but moved out about two years ago. He quit his job, that gave him a free flat, and so had to move back in. AND I HATE IT! I absolutely hate it. It's been two days and I am already sick of it. He's fine, like it's not because of him. It's just the suddenly having to share space with another person again. Nope. It's not for me. No more running around the flat, singing Hamilton songs at the top of my lungs. Living with people is not fun. I feel like I wasn't made to interact with other human beings. Animals, sure, but not humans!

Other than that I have been buying a ton of books - I spent like £100 but I was pre-ordering a bunch and so don't actually get charged till they all ship. I won't be including my pre-orders in my haul, just the books I bought that actually arrived. I've also been trying to read a more often and I have been sticking to that - totally helps that I have been blogging way less!

The Winner's Kiss by Marie Rutkoski: I read this forever ago and already have the paperback, but I own the others in UK paperback AND Us hardback... So, yes, I did have to buy a second copy!

The Trials of Apollo by Rick Riordan: I haven't even finished the first Percy Jackson series yet OR Heroes of Olympus but, fuck it, it was cheap. I will read them eventually.

Walk the Earth a Stranger by Rae Carson: I don't know why I caved and finally bought this but I did. I have seen a lot of mixed reviews and so I am a little nervous to get to it.

Wicked Heart by Leisa Rayven: I read and really enjoyed Bad Romeo and Broken Juliet so I wanted to read this one, although it focuses on different characters. I am currently reading it and really enjoying it.

Paper Girls by Brian K Vaughan: I bought this because Vaughan is behind Saga and that is my new favourite thing. Sadly this one was just super weird and utterly confusing and I'm not really sure if I want to continue.

The Wicked + The Divine by Gillen, McKelvie, Wilson & Cowles: I put off buying this for ages because of mixed reviews. I so regret that as this was fucking epic! So, so good. And it gets a million bonus points for being set in London. I will buying all the other volumes on pay day, I have to have them!

Every Exquisite Thing by Matthew Quick: This was sent to me for review and I am excited to read this one.

The Second Love of My Life by Victoria Walters: This is another book that was sent to me for review and it sounds like it could be a read that might make me cry.

What have you been up to this week? Have you read any amazing books?

  1. Sorry to hear about your work troubles, and new roommate! That can never be fun. Hopefully things will take a turn for the better soon! But yay new books!! Even if you had one already! Heehee! Totally guilty of buying multiple copies! I actually did that as well with my haul this week, so you'll see no judgy eyes from me! I had debated about getting the UK copies of Marie's books as well, but managed to talk myself out of it. I really need to get back to saving money instead of spending it!

Hope you enjoy all your lovely new reads!

My STS post will be up on Sunday, so stop by then if you can!

    Have a GREAT day!

  2. I'm sorry to hear you are so stressed. There was a point when my fiance and I were still in school and we made the decision to move in with his parents to save money. It was awful. It totally sucked having to share a space with someone again. I was totally miserable until we moved out.

I hope you enjoy all the books your bought at least :D.

  3. Congrats on all the books but sorry you haven't had a great week. It is hard having someone else live with you, it changes things a lot. Hang in there and hopefully it won't be for very long.

  4. Yea, I hate people too. I hate that I'm living with my dad and step-mom. I dream of the day I can get out and live by myself again. Ugh.
You're like the only person I know that likes The Wicked + The Divine. Lol! The artwork is amazing. But the story was utterly confusing.
Wicked Heart. <3 <3 <3 I've already read it twice this year and I really want to pick it up and read it again. Haha

  5. I've been reading a lot of manga and graphic novels lately. I've pretty much had two slumpy months so this week when my reading mojo came back it made me SO happy! I'm so sorry to hear that people around you have been kind of ugh lately. And yeah, it must be difficult when that comfort and freedom of home is kind of taken away because of a visitor >.> Hope things get better in that area soon.

  6. Awww, sad that this has been kind of a sucky week for you :( But at least you got some great books!! I can’t wait to read WALK THE EARTH A STRANGER...it sounds really cool! Great haul and happy reading :D

  7. I don't really do well with other people...oh I can talk to them and be social when I need to but I like the peace and quiet of my own space and my own company so I have sympathy for you. Ugh, nothing worse than when you start hating your job, and it's not exactly easy to find a new one plus worrying that a new job might be worse. I hope things get better for you.

  8. YOU MUST READ PERCY JACKSON!!! The series is what got me into reading so I'm pro Percy ;) I just finished Saga Vol 1 (because you convinced me to pick it up) and I absolutely loved it. I must get more graphic novels now! Brian K. Vaughan actually has a series out with Marvel that I'm really, really wanting! Must check out The Wicked & The Divine. I also have to finish The Winner's Curse series. I've only read the first book...when it came out. I also have Wicked Heart because I adore the author's writing but I just haven't gotten to it yet.

I hope things get better at work and with the roommate situation. It's not fun to feel uncomfortable in your home. Hopefully the brother isn't there for long.

  9. I picked up Walk on Earth A Stranger recently, too. It looks so pretty... I've been told I'll like it, so fingers crossed!

I've had that issue with housemates before, too. Maybe if you mention it you can arrange something whereby you get at least some time home alone?

  13. Ohh The Winner's series is SO DANG BEAUTIFUL I totally understand having it in all the editions. 😂 I COULD HUG THOSE BOOKS BASICALLY AFJDKLSAFDJ Ahem.
But that sucks about having to have relatives living with you. :( I tooootally get that. My sister and her 3 kids came to stay with us for a week and that was just ONE WEEK but I was 1000% done after one day.😂 I need my peace, my quiet, my zilch socialising. hehe. SO I UNDERSTAND. HANG IN THERE. THE BOOKS SHALL COMFORT YOU!!!

  14. I'm so sorry for your stressful week! Hopefully next week things will calm down. I spend so much money on pre-orders all the time, it's really a problem, LOL.

  17. Ugh. Having someone live with you is so not good. It's like your personal space is just invaded 24/7. My step-daughter lived with us for about six months (years ago) and it was awful. I found myself staying at the office later and inventing reasons to be away from the house. So I feel your pain. :( I've yet to start Bad Romeo even though I have a friend who is hounding me to read it. One of these days!
