My Weekly Book Haul: 15/03/2014

STSmall
Friday Finds is something that was started over on ShouldBeReading and Stacking the Shelves over at TyngaReviews, I am in love with all of these as I love finding other blogs to follow and books to read through these! So check them all out and see what you find, Stacking the Shelves has a lot of participants as well which is great. This is basically a way for me to show what books I have received, borrowed or bought each week. All book covers and their summary come from back of book or Goodreads.

I had a rather amazing week for one reason: I got to meet Malorie Blackman. She wrote the Noughts & Crosses series, which has been a favourite series of mine since I was eleven. Thanks to the blog and the review I posted, I was emailed by the BBC and asked to send in questions for their BBC World Book Club radio show and I obliged. Well because I live in London and the broadcasting house is in London they invited me down to watch them record it and meet the author. I was so excited and nervous at the same time because I had to get up in front of everyone to read out my question. I took my book to get it signed and met lots of lovely people. It was a brilliant day.
Golden by Jessi Kirby

Seventeen-year-old Parker Frost has never taken the road less traveled. Valedictorian and quintessential good girl, she’s about to graduate high school without ever having kissed her crush or broken the rules. So when fate drops a clue in her lap—one that might be the key to unraveling a town mystery—she decides to take a chance.
Julianna Farnetti and Shane Cruz are remembered as the golden couple of Summit Lakes High—perfect in every way, meant to be together forever. But Julianna’s journal tells a different story—one of doubts about Shane and a forbidden romance with an older, artistic guy. These are the secrets that were swept away with her the night that Shane’s jeep plunged into an icy river, leaving behind a grieving town and no bodies to bury.
Reading Julianna’s journal gives Parker the courage to start to really live—and it also gives her reasons to question what really happened the night of the accident. Armed with clues from the past, Parker enlists the help of her best friend, Kat, and Trevor, her longtime crush, to track down some leads. The mystery ends up taking Parker places that she never could have imagined. And she soon finds that taking the road less traveled makes all the difference.

The boyfriend ordered me this one as a gift and I was so excited to get this one. I have seen some great reviews.

The Finisher by David Baldacci
The FinisherWelcome to Wormwood: a place where curiosity is discouraged and no one has ever left.
Until one girl, Vega Jane, discovers a map that suggests a mysterious world beyond the walls. A world with possibilities and creatures beyond her imagining.
But she will be forced to fight for her freedom. And unravelling the truth may cost Vega her life.

I love the cover for this one and it was really cheap. I haven't read any of the authors other books but this does look interesting.
The Falconer (The Falconer, #1) The Falconer (The Falconer, #1)
The Falconer by Elizabeth May
One girl's nightmare is this girl's faery tale.
She's a stunner.
Edinburgh, 1844. Eighteen-year-old Lady Aileana Kameron, the only daughter of the Marquess of Douglas, has everything a girl could dream of: brains, charm, wealth, a title — and drop-dead beauty.
She's a liar.
But Aileana only looks the part of an aristocratic young lady. She's leading a double life: She has the rare ability to sense the sìthichean — the faery race obsessed with slaughtering humans — and, with the aid of a mysterious mentor, has spent the year since her mother died learning how to kill them.
She's a murderer.
Now Aileana is dedicated to slaying the fae before they take innocent lives. With her abilities and her knack for inventing ingenious tools and weapons — from flying machines to detonators to lightning pistols — ruthless Aileana has one goal: Destroy the faery who destroyed her mother.
She's a Falconer.
The last in a line of female warriors born with the gift for hunting and killing the fae, Aileana is the sole hope of preventing a powerful faery population from massacring all of humanity. Suddenly, her quest is a lot more complicated. She still longs to avenge her mother's murder — but she'll have to save the world first.

I think I prefer the US cover on this one.
This was a brilliant find in London. I really need to hurry up and do my post about shopping for books in London because you can get some amazing deals. This one should be £13 but I got it for £3 from an Oxfam bookshop, which are amazing in London and they have a ton of ARCs given to them by publishers.

The Edge of Never by J. A. Redmerski
The Edge of Never (The Edge of Never, #1)Twenty-year-old Camryn Bennett thought she knew exactly where her life was going. But after a wild night at the hottest club in downtown Raleigh, North Carolina, she shocks everyone-including herself-when she decides to leave the only life she's ever known and set out on her own. Grabbing her purse and her cell phone, Camryn boards a Greyhound bus ready to find herself. Instead, she finds Andrew Parrish.
Sexy and exciting, Andrew lives life like there is no tomorrow. He persuades Camryn to do things she never thought she would and shows her how to give in to her deepest, most forbidden desires. Soon he becomes the center of her daring new life, pulling love and lust and emotion out of her in ways she never imagined possible. But there is more to Andrew than Camryn realizes. Will his secret push them inseparably together-or destroy them forever?

I've seen this everywhere and it does look good. It was only £2 so I had to buy it, plus the cover is gorgeous!
The Edge of Always by J. A. Redmerski
The Edge of Always (The Edge of Never, #2)Five months ago, Camryn and Andrew, both dealing with personal hardships, met on a Greyhound bus. They fell in love and proved that when two people are meant to be together, fate will find a way to make it happen.
Now, in the highly anticipated sequel to THE EDGE OF NEVER, Camryn and Andrew are pursuing their love for music and living life to the fullest as they always swore to do. But when tragedy befalls them, their relationship is put to the ultimate test. As Camryn tries to numb her pain, Andrew makes a bold decision: To get their life back on track, they’ll set out on another cross-country road trip. Together they find excitement, passion, adventure—and challenges they never could have anticipated.
Banished by Lis De Jager
Banished (The Blackhart Legacy, #1)Sworn to protect, honour and slay. Because chaos won’t banish itself…
Kit is proud to be a Blackhart, now she’s encountered her unorthodox cousins and their strange lives. And her home-schooling now includes spells, fighting enemy fae and using ancient weapons. But it’s not until she rescues a rather handsome fae prince, fighting for his life on the edge of Blackhart Manor, that her training really kicks in. With her family away on various missions, Kit must protect Prince Thorn, rely on new friends and use her own unfamiliar magic to stay ahead of Thorn’s enemies. As things go from bad to apocalyptic, fae battle fae in a war that threatens to spill into the human world. Then Kit pits herself against the Elder Gods themselves – it’s that or lose everyone she’s learnt to love.

Just Like FateJust Like Fate by Cat Patrick and Suzanne Young
Caroline is at a crossroads. Her whole family is on her back, and her grandmother, the only person who really understands her, is sick, maybe dying. All she wants to do is escape. So when her best friend suggests a night out to forget her troubles, Caroline must choose: stay by her grandmother's side, or go to the party and live her life . . . and maybe meet the boy of her dreams.
This decision will split Caroline's fate into two separate paths - and she's about to live them both. But there can only be one happy ending . . .

I love the look of this one! PARALLEL UNIVERSES YAY!

Bird Without Wings: FAEBLESBird Without Wings by Cally Pepper
Scarlett is sixteen. She's glad to be finishing high school because she feels unpopular and not especially attractive. Following the mysterious disappearance of her father, and then an attempted date-rape by her best friend's older brother, Scarlett is confused, friendless, and lonely. Then strange things begin to happen. Scarlett discovers a beautiful and mystical world that exists in parallel to the real world, the Fae (Fairy) World, and is happy to escape to this amazing place which is inhabited by some beautiful, friendly and sexy, winged Fae people.
Through To You by Lauren Barnholdt
Through to YouOpposites attract—and then complicate—in this romantic, relatable novel from the author of Two-way Street and Sometimes It Happens.
It starts with a scribbled note in class: I like your sparkle. Harper had casually threaded a piece of blue and silver tinsel through her ponytail in honor of school spirit day. And that carefree, corny gesture is what grabs Penn Mattingly’s eye. Penn—resident heartbreaker of the senior class. Reliably unreliable. Trouble with a capital “T.” And okay, smolderingly sexy.
Harper’s surprised by Penn’s attention—and so is Penn. The last thing he needs is a girlfriend. Or even a friend-with-benefits. The note is not supposed to lead to anything.
Oh, but it does. They hang out. They have fun. They talk. They make out. And after a while, it seems like they just click. But Penn and Harper have very different ideas about what relationships look like, in no small part because of their very different family backgrounds. Of course they could talk about these differences—if Penn knew how to talk about feelings.
Harper and Penn understand their attraction is illogical, yet something keeps pulling them together. It’s like a crazy roller coaster—exhilarating, terrifying, and amazing all at once. And neither knows how to stop the ride…

  1. I really, really want to buy a copy of Golden now that I have read the synopsis again. I think that I might spend the $13 dollars on Amazon to get a hardcover. It sounds like one I would want to have in physical form and not ebook. I really like Through to You that you have for review, too, that one sounds great. Really great haul this week! :]

Is that from the same author of The Program? One of my favourites, definitely adding this one too. Thanks for sharing and congratulations on meeting a childhood hero. 79. You got some great deals! I'm curious about The Finisher. I've read several of Baldacci's adult books, but not in a long time. The Falconer sounds really good, and I've got high expectations for that. I've read Golden and Just Like Fate, and I thought both were just OK. I was in the minority, though, on Golden, as it has some very good reviews. Enjoy!

    1. Well I will keep my expectations low for Golden, that way I won't be disappointed. I haven't read any Baldacci so I am intrigued by this one. Thanks for stopping by! :)
