Five Friday Favourites: Favourite Books of 2014 So Far

Five Friday Favourites is a weekly event hosted by Book Badger, where once a week, a five favourites subject is posted and everyone is welcome to join in. You can find out more about Five Friday Favourites and the future subjects here.

This is a nice easy topic this week! Pick your five favourite books that you have read so far this year. I've read 31 books so far this year so I had a lot to choose from. But I haven't had too many five star reads this year, so that made it a lot easier to pick.

Okay, yes, I'm cheating! This is technically three books and 1 novella, but as it is a series it seems perfectly acceptable to use them as only one of my favourites. This series completely blew me away, I wish I hadn't waited so long to read it. Aria and Perry were such brilliant characters and I loved their romance. The world building is this series is exceptional as well. If you haven't read it then you really need to go do that... NOW!

A book that comes with it's own soundtrack, how can you not love it. Being able to listen to the songs as the characters wrote them was a lot of fun. I fell in love with music and can't stop listening to it even now. But listening to the music makes me think of the book and then I just want to go read the book all over again. Colleen Hoover is a tricksy ninja, she makes me love her New Adult books. That's no easy task as I have hated most NA that I have read. Brilliant concept to have a soundtrack written especially for the book. Loved it.

I actually had quite low expectations for the Uninvited, I'm not quite sure why. I just thought it was going to be an okay read but like a lot of books I've read before. So I was really pleasantly surprised when I ended up absolutely loving this one. I am itching to get my hands on the sequel already and am not too pleased about the long wait. I thought this one felt realistic to how the world would react if we were told by the government that they could use our DNA to figure out which people were capable of murder. A really interesting concept and great start to a new series.

I finished this very recently and am still trying to write my review for it. This is one of those stories that will stay with you for a very long time. I had assumed this was going to be just another young adult thriller, but it wasn't at all. The hunt for the killer was such a minor part of the book that I rarely thought about it that much. This was more a story about love, friendship and finding out who you are as a person and being able to accept that about yourself. It was a really beautiful book and that makes it so much harder to review.

The Program was a book that I kept seeing a lot when I first started blogging. I finally caved and got it for myself late last year and I am so happy I did. It was a brilliant start to a two part series, but I have to admit the end book was really disappointing for me. In this book, suicide is seen as an epidemic and as more and more teenagers begin killing themselves the government comes up with a solution. The solution is The Program, which helps to wipe their memories of any incidents in their life that could make them sad or willing to end their own life. It was a brilliant book and I'm just sad the last book was so disappointing.

    1. Under the Never Sky became an instant favourite of mine as soon as I read it, truly incredible series. The Treatment was just a big let down for me, it didn't answer all the questions and had a really abrupt end.

  6. I haven't read like ANY of these...phewf. What have I been doing?! x) I would really like to read Uninvited and The Program. I think The Program is one of the last more "famous" dystopians I haven't read yet. Need to get onto that!!

    1. It's definitely worth a read, a very good start to an series. It's just a shame that I hated the sequel so much, it ends really abruptly and doesn't really answer all the questions.
