Top Things On My Reading Wish List
I've had a really fun week, I've posted a lot of reviews and got a lot of reading done! I also had sooooo much fun doing a post about my Top 20 Non-Disney animation movies. Loads of people commented and I had so much fun reading the comments and seeing what movies were your favourites! Thanks so much to everyone who came and checked it out, it took me ages and I'm glad you had as much fun reading it as I did making it.
I might be cheating a little this week, but a lot of my reading wishes are ones centred around books that already exist. So I want to do the things I'd force certain authors to write, and then some more obscure things I want. I really can't think of many this week, so I just went for the first things that popped into my head.
J. K. Rowling
I would force her to write a new series set in the HP universe. I'd actually really love a series that centred around Harry's parents at school, then we would get to see Snape and how he came to love Lily. Or any type of prequel that showed Voldermort's rise to power and how Harry's parents died. I think that would be really fun to read. I'd also hold her hostage until she wrote me book 7 again, in which four of my favourite characters don't die!
David Clement-Davies
To write another book or series like The Sight or Fire Bringer, they are both incredible and I want more books like that. These were books I grew up reading and they were incredible. Both books are told from the perspective of animals and I absolutely loved them as kids. I can still happily reread these now, but I wish I had a new David Clement-Davies book to read.
Tabitha Suzuma
Would it be too much to ask someone to change a massive part of there book? Well, I'd do it anyway. I'd want some changes made to Forbidden so that it was left more open for a sequel. I want more Maya & Lochan, I need more Maya & Lochan... PRETTY PLEASE!
More YA Books That Focus On Taboo, Thought-Provoking Subjects: Forbidden by Tabitha Suzuma is one of my favourite books, which really surprised me. It centres on the taboo subject of incest, when the two main character Maya & Lochan fall in love. I thought I'd never read a book on incest, until I remembered Flowers in the Attic and The Cement Garden, but those two books didn't seem to handle it or do it anywhere near as well. This story was beautiful, it broke my heart and it really got me thinking. I would never have picked it up if it wasn't for the glowing reviews and amazing comments I;'d seen about it. I'd love to see more YA books that push the boundaries like that, and challenge me as a reader.
More Books Where The Girl Wants The Good Guy: Most of the time, I'm pretty sure 'bad boy' is just code for arsehole. I prefer books where the love interest is actually a nice guy! Forbidden, My Life Next Door, Noughts & Crosses... all the guys are sweet and nice and the kind of guy you would actually want to be with.
More New Adult Books NOT About Romance: I think New Adult is a great idea, having books about actual young adults, people coming into adulthood and finding who they are. But these all seem to be about romance and sex and I can't distinguish between most of them. I'd love for it to have more variety, like a New Adult Dystopian, where it's more mature than a young adult book but not purely focused on two characters getting it on. Or any sub-genre included - other than troubled male meets messed up girl and they eventually have sex. If you know any like this then let me know!
More Parallel Universe Stories: I watched Sliding Doors the other night, and it's a movie that I love. It shows two different stories with two different outcomes and I've always thought it was brilliant. I have yet to see that in a book, and I think it would be brilliant! It's the reason I wanted to read Pivot Point, which I need to do soon.
A Book Like Dexter: Dexter was one of my favourite TV shows (they kind of ruined it with the last three seasons, which were awful) and I'd love to have a book like that. It's based on a book series, but I never really enjoyed those as they were completely different from the show, and very weird. A book that puts you into the mind of a serial killer would just be really cool. This may be the huge part of me that misses Dexter though.

OMG I am sooooooo with you on the Harry Potter books!! I would definitely force her to rewrite certain things in the series and then write a completely new series in the HP universe! Love your ideas! I'm still holding out hope that she does end up writing more about that universe ;)
ReplyDeleteMe too ;) We can dream at least! I really do hope she decides to write more in that universe, it would make us Potter crazies very happy :)
DeleteThese are some good requests! I agree on the other Harry Potter books, but I also agree on Forbidden. I really enjoyed it, and I thought it covered the subject really well, delicately too. I still very much like seeing it on my shelves. Great post :D
ReplyDeleteTop Ten Tuesdays: Reading Wishlist
I really loved Forbidden, I'd love to find more YA books that can handle a subject matter like that so well. Thanks :for checking my list out :)
DeleteI completely agree on the more non-romance NA point! It all sounds so similar - I think NA has the potential to be so much more than that! I would also be more than up for a JKR book about James Potter & co. back when they were in Hogwarts!
ReplyDeleteI haven't read Forbidden but I've read some great reviews of it. More books on delicate/tough subjects are always a good idea in my opinion, since they help raise awareness.
Great list!
My TTT
I think almost every list I visited wanted another HP book! NA really does have so much potential, I hope it adds more variety soon. I'd definitely recommend Forbidden, I think it handles the subject matter very well. Thanks for stopping by :)
DeleteAnother HP series! I would swoon at the very idea. I do tend to like the good boys (not sure why), in books. I've never seen Dexter, so I'll trust your word on that one. Great list!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by!
Thanks! I think the world needs a new HP series! I like the good guys too, they need to win more.
DeleteMore YA Books That Focus On Taboo, Thought-Provoking Subjects. This is a really good one, like really really good. Too bad I didn't think about it :)
ReplyDeleteBooks like that really need to be read more, its important and people can really learn from them.
Great List!
Definitely, and they can be really moving when they are done well. Thanks for stopping by :)
DeleteI love Dexter too, but also hated the last three seasons. Did you actually finished it out and see the series finale? It was....interesting. I like the books series too, but it's kinda hit or miss. And I love the movie Sliding Doors. John Hanna is adorable.
ReplyDeleteI did finish it- WHAT WAS THAT ENDING!!!??!!! Terrible end to an amazing show. It still makes me angry thinking about it.
DeleteI agree 100%! After seasons like the one with the Trinity Killer, which was brilliant....the show ended in a horrifically bad and confusing way. I'm two books away from being done with the book series. Hopefully that ends better.
DeleteOooh, let me know if it does! Deb was my favourite, so I was less than impressed by that ending. Plus quite a lot of that last episode made no logical sense. I kind of felt like it was a joke... and then they would bring out the real episode, but no: http://i.imgur.com/J10A5Dx.gif
DeleteYes, a prequel Harry Potter book would be great, I would definitely read that (as would everyone, I'm sure). I've heard great things about Forbidden, I may have to just check that one out.
ReplyDeleteYes, NA books that are not the same story about damaged characters. I would love some NA dystopian, fantasy, paranormal, etc. And love love love parallel universe books, so I would totally be up for that. Great list! ~Pam
I definitely recommend Forbidden, but I am totally biased as it's one of my favourite books. I want NA to have more variety and mix with all the genres you've mentioned - it would work really well.
DeleteYes to more Harry Potter!!
ReplyDeleteI also like your wish for more new adult books that aren't about romances, and parallel universe stories would be great to (I also loved Sideways).
We, the world, need more Harry Potter! :) It has to happen eventually, right?!?
DeleteOOh nice picks! I gotta admit I liked Dexter too! Though it was the last two seasons that were iffy on me, but I still liked it okay!
ReplyDeleteHere's my Tuesday post
Have a GREAT day!
Old Follower :)
I know, the series did go very downhill at the end. I'd love books like that though :)
DeleteYes to more from JK Rowling!!!
ReplyDeleteIt has to happen eventually, right?!? :)
DeleteYES YES more stories like David Clement Davies'! Yes for more parallel stories! (that's on my list too, sort of). Pivot Point was very well done and the sequel is due out any day now. And yes we need to see Harry's parents and Draco's parents and the Weasley's parents and Snape when they were kids at Hogwarts.
ReplyDeleteI am glad to find someone else who knows who David Clement-Davies is, you are literally the first person! YES to more HP. I definitely need to read Pivot Point then, I want a good parallel universe story.
DeleteGreat list. More HP is a very popular choice. There is a series of 5 books about James Potter (Harry's son) but they aren't written by JK Rowling. I haven't read them so I cannot attest to how good they are. In case you're interested, you can search GoodReads for James Potter by G. Norman Lippert.
ReplyDeleteI had no clue someone else had written James Potter books, will definitely look into that! Thanks :)
DeleteI think the prequel HP series is a marvellous idea! I'd read them for certain!
ReplyDeleteWe need more HP books, definitely! :)
DeleteI would love to read a HP prequel!!! I would fall over and faint actually if that was announced! I also SO want New Adult to be better AND I want books about the nice guy (more Jase Garretts!!!)
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by My TTT
Yes to more Jace Garretts! I think millions of people would faint if a HP prequel was announced. Thanks for checking my post out too :)
DeleteThis is a great list! You had so many interesting ideas...holding J.K. Rowling hostage? Need help?
ReplyDeleteNow I'm interested in Forbidden.
Thanks for stopping by! http://disappearintoreading.wordpress.com/
Yes, much help is needed for that task, but I'm sure we can pull it off. It's clearly for the greater good :) Definitely recommend Forbidden!
DeleteCheck out Unteachable by Leah Raeder if you want thought provoking and compelling with a very taboo subject:) This is a great list:)
ReplyDeleteI just looked it up on Goodreads, yes... I NEED TO READ THAT! Thanks for the great recommendation :)
DeleteYou miss Dexter too??? I never read the books, but I think I'm still going to. And yes! A series that passes through the mind of a serial killer is definitely in order!
ReplyDeleteI really miss Dexter... but good Dexter! :)
DeleteI've never seen Dexter, but the idea seems really cool! (I need to get my hands on season one soon...) I agree with you, though! I'd love to see a book series (or just a novel?) like Dexter. That would honestly be so cool. Nice list!
ReplyDeleteT from YA Book Queens (:
I definitely recommend Dexter... it's really amazing for the most part :)
DeleteMore NA books not about romance would be awesome! :D
ReplyDeleteDEFINITELY :)
DeleteI totally agree with you about NA books not involving sex! And the girl wanting the good guy! I ALWAYS prefer the good guy, and I just can't wrap my mind around the fuss of the bad boys!
ReplyDeleteI know, I much prefer the good, kind, sweet guy to the 'bad boy'. :)
DeleteGreat ideas. Thanks for stopping by my blog.
ReplyDeleteThanks for checking mine out too :)
DeleteDon't you know in your heart that someday Rowling will cave and write more Harry?!
ReplyDeleteGreat list.
I don't dare to dream that big... just in case she remains stubborn! :)
DeleteYou should definitely read Pivot Point. Also Just Like Fate and Parallel, if you love that sort of thing.
ReplyDeleteAnd IDK, I might be both happy and depressed if JKR started writing more HP books. I mean, I think the books are so perfect the way they are...
Thanks so much for stopping by! Jen @ YA Romantics
I will add all three to my TBR list. I know, I kind of feel the same way but the HP obsessed me just wants more HP and for it to never end... even if it doesn't live up to the original.
DeleteI have seen the NA topic a couple of times, I haven't gotten into that genre much yet but from what I have seen there is nothing out there but romance
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by.
I haven't read much for that reason, hopefully we will start to see more variety soon.
DeleteI have not come across Forbidden yet, in spite of myself I'm intrigued! I would be interested to see a book that handles that topic well.
ReplyDeleteI really loved that book, it destroyed me but I LOVED it :)
DeleteI thought that's what the new series was going to about, when I heard the JK Rowling news. I'm happy to be getting anything in the Wizarding World, but still I want the Marauder's story. I'd love that. It's such an interesting story and I know that it exists in her mind palace.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by earlier!
I know, I really wish we had a Marauder's story too :)
DeleteI am so tired of all the girls being in love with the bad boys too.
ReplyDeleteI know, give the good guy a chance for one :)
DeleteGood list, I'd also like it if the girl choose the good boy as well.
ReplyDeleteI know, we definitely need to see more good guys winning :)
DeleteWow, great list. I totally agree with you about "bad boy" being code for arsehole! I don't mind edgy guys, or that whole bad boy with a heart of gold scenario, but I don't like it when they are just rude and it is ok because they are "bad boys". I also like your serial killer idea. There are actually some books coming out this year with series killer protagonists. :) Thanks for stopping by!! Shannon @ Rex Robot Reviews
ReplyDeleteI will definitely be on the lookout for those serial killer books! :) I know, I don't mind the bad boy who is actually a nice person, but when they just seem to treat the girl badly then I can't understand why the girl chooses them.
DeleteI love Clement Davies, I read The Sight and Firebringer as a kid, and was enchanted...I picked up a copy of Fell when it came out (even though I was much older) as well as the Telling Pool and was surprised to find being an adult didn't take away the magic. Sometimes you revisit books/authros you thought were great, and find they aren't anymore...I didn't have that problem with DCD; he did something wonderful.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my blog today!
I am so happy I am finding people who have heard of and love DCD's books. I had never found another person before this, so it's really nice. I definitely know what you mean, I'm glad reading his books as an adult is still as much fun as when I was a kid.
DeleteFantastic list :-) I'd love a Harry Potter prequel.
ReplyDeleteI know, it needs to happen :)
DeleteI'd love more parallel universe stories, and I definitely want more books where the girl falls in love with the nice guy. :)
ReplyDeleteI know, nice guys definitely need to win the girl more :)
DeleteI'm only up to book 4 in the Harry Potter series (I am SO late on that hype it's kind of embarrassing). But I'm already totally intrigued about Harry's parents and the backstory of all the teachers.
ReplyDeleteIt's okay to be behind, as long as you get to them eventually ;)
DeleteTotally agree with wanting more YA taboo/thought-provoking subjects! Have you read any Laurie Halse Anderson? Also girls not wanting the bad boy - yes! (Although I am a sucker for a bad boy - it's like a disease!)
ReplyDeleteI know, I do love a good bad boy, but a good one - not one who treats the girl badly. I have read quite a lot of LHA's book - read her latest though and wasn't a fan :(
DeleteYES for all of them except for the new book set in HP world. I adore HP but I think it's there where it should be :) And I actually love the ending of Forbidden, because it makes it more real and I'm kinda of masochist :D BUT YES for girls going for good guys and NA books not only focused on romance. That we need! Great list :)
ReplyDeleteHa I know, I kind of loved the Forbidden ending too, but my need for more Maya & Lochan makes me want it to end differently. I yearn for more HP, but I know that it wouldn't live up to the books and would probably disappoint me and yet I still want it.
DeleteSaw Noughts and Crosses and oh The Feels!!Such a wonderful yet sad series. No. 1 making J.K. Rowling write another series set in HP world....how frickin' amazing would that be?
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by My TTT
It NEEDS to happen! I know, Noughts & Crosses is such a sad series but I love it! :)
DeleteBooks in the mind of a serial killer, now that i really really want to read. More of those are definitely needed! Also i know exactly what you mean about the last couple seasons of dexter, they just weren't the same :( Also New Adult books not about Romance would be great, there almost seems to be a bit too much romance nowadays (in my opinion anyway). Great choices! :)
ReplyDeleteOh I definitely agree, romance just seems to be EVERYWHERE and in genres that aren't romance. Dexter went really down hill, which is such a shame because it was so brilliant.
DeleteI am still scared to read Forbidden but I hope to get the courage one day. I fully agree with you NA not about romance only. I've almost given up on the genre so I am ready for something new/different in it. Thanks for stopping by my blog :)
ReplyDeleteI think Forbidden is one that you really need to prepare yourself to read, it's not the easiest of subjects to read about. I don't have any brothers, which makes it a little easier to read I think - but not by much. Hopefully NA will get some variety soon :)
DeleteGreat list! Yes Yes Yes to Rowley writing about Harry's parents at school!
ReplyDeleteIt needs to happen :)
DeleteSo, yeah, I'm totally with you on the Harry Potter thing. Like, apparently, a million other people out there! But I also TOTALLY. AGREE. with you on that whole New Adult romance bit, too. I think the concept of targeting that age group with a specific genre is awesome. Too bad everything I've read of it is basically just YA books with no love triangles and more sex. Which, you know, whatever. I just feel there could be more there.
ReplyDeleteThere could definitely be more to NA, it all seems like the exact same book. It has so much potential, they really should add some variety. I know, why won't J. K. Rowling listen to us? :P
DeleteOh yes please more JK Rowling forever!
ReplyDeleteI know, this needs to happen :)
DeleteI don't think I heard some of these authors but agree about More Parallel Universe Stories. There are couple of them there but I haven't found one that I love. Thanks for stopping by my blog!
ReplyDeleteI know, I want to find a really great one - I really want Sliding Doors in book form! :)
DeleteUh yes to more HP universe books! My life has felt so empty ever since I stopped waiting for the next HP book.
ReplyDeleteI also LOVE parallel universes! You should check out Parallel by Lauren Miller. That had sort of a Sliding Doors feel to it with a science twist.
Also, I want more variety in NA! I loved Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell. That has some romance but I never really felt like it was the main focus and it wasn't ever over the top to me.
I know, the anticipation for the next book was something you could hang on to... now I feel empty!!! We need another one. I will definitely check out Parallel, sounds good. I'll definitely be reading Fangirl soon too, have heard so many good things.
DeleteYES! I completely agree with your wish of JKR writing books in the HP world from their parents adventures. Oh wow would that be awesome!
ReplyDeleteIt needs to happen! :)
DeleteOh so many great ideas! I've heard a lot about Forbidden and it makes me really interested in reading it but I don't know. I agree on the NA, it needs more variety!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely more variety. I loved Forbidden, but it's a tough subject and not for everyone. I recommend it, obviously, it's one of my favourites :)
DeleteI liked that you had specific authors in mind for some of those points :)
ReplyDeleteI know... I kind of wanted J K Rowling for all ten - there is quite a lot of wishes just for her! :)
Deleteyes yes YES to more Forbidden and Harry Potter-- girl, you're in my head!! I love it!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad I'm not the only one who wants more Forbidden :)
DeleteI love the parallel universe idea! I'd read that in a heartbeat. And I want to get into some New Adult, but I've sort of been holding off because it seems to all be contemporary romance. Which is fine, but like you I'd like to see some more variety. I'll have to keep my eyes open, I guess!
ReplyDeleteI definitely want more variety in New Adult, I'd definitely read it more if it did :)
DeleteI'll help you kidnap J. K Rowling if it means more Harry.
ReplyDeleteI've had someone else say they'll help too, hopefully between the three of us we can succeed in our mission! :)
DeleteLove your list! YES to parallel universes - that sounds FUN! (And on that note, I should actually watch Sliding Doors, I've only seen snippets of it.) Plus your idea of the girl wanting to be with the "good guy" sounds heavenly. YES to that times a million. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting Dreaming Under the Same Moon today. Hope you enjoyed the visit. :)
I know, sometimes the good guy should get to win! :) Sliding Doors is a great book, I definitely recommend that one.
DeleteDexter recommendation: I believe Killer Instinct by Shannon Greenland has something Dexter mixed into it!
ReplyDeleteAnd great list! I would so love a Harry Potter prequel series, I am now craving it!
I will definitely be on the lookout for Killer Instinct then :)
DeleteHELL YES for JKR!!! We NEED her write write write more more more! *winks* Great list!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for stopping by my post earlier and apologies for stopping back at yours so late! Happy reading!
Sarika @ The Readdicts
No problem, I know how time consuming this whole blogging thing can be :) I know, why she ever stopped I will never know ;)
DeleteI've never read any of David Clement-Davies' books but I've been told that they're great. I really like the idea of New Adult Dystopian.
ReplyDeleteMe too, I hope NA gets more variety soon. I love DCD, he writes some amazing books.
DeleteGreat TTT, I'd help you secure JK Rowling to write more books.. I'm in and they were great ideas btw :)
ReplyDeleteChanzie @ Mean Who You Are.
Well, between the lot of us I am sure our plan will work and we will have her working on those books in no time ;)
DeleteI completely agree about more Harry Potter universe books! I would die for a prequel series about the Marauders, Lily, and Snape! Great list. :)
ReplyDeleteCait @ Book Love
I know, how has this not happened yet?!?
DeleteYou've easily summed up why I don't read New Adult books. Now, if there were some fantasy or sci-fi NA books out there that weren't focused on romance, I'd be very interested. Great ideas and thanks for visiting my blog.
ReplyDeleteI know, NA really needs to have more variety and then I would be a lot more interested in reading it.
DeleteYes, I'm with you on NA. I'd also love more from JK Rowling, but fanfic is a decent filler :)
ReplyDeleteI should probably start reading fanfic then because I think it will be a while/never before we get more HP from JKR.
DeleteI love your list. I'm with you on more Harry Potter universe and the parallel universe stories would be awesome! Thanks for stopping by my list
ReplyDeleteAlex @ The Book Banner
You're welcome. I hope we get more HP universe books soon :)
DeleteI definitely hear you about the girl wanting the 'good guy' for a change. Thanks for sharing, for stopping by my blog earlier, and for the awesome giveaway. More power! :)
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome! I really hope we see more good guys winning the girls :)
DeleteGood points. Most girls always want the bad boy and when he leaves we wish we could have the good guy back -- you know the one that got away because we let him :(
ReplyDeleteYes, definitely. I would love to see more books show the girl picking the good guy, he's much better for her in the long run! :)
DeleteYour list is a good one. :)
ReplyDeleteI can't think of any other books from the pov of the killer, except for those that have short snippets like The Body Finder and The Naturals. However, if you want just good books about serial killers, I recommend Mariah Stewart's FBI/Dead series or Alane Ferguson's Forensic Mystery Series.
The only book I've read dealing with Parallel Universes was Timeline by Michael Chrichton, and I loved it.
As for your comments on New Adult and Girls wanting the GOOD guy. I agree wholeheartedly. We definitely need more books like that.
As for Taboo, well it may not be what you mean because it definitely isn't incest, but have you ever read the book The Earth, My Butt, and Other Big Round Things by Carolyn Mackler? It is about a girl whose brother rapes a woman while away at college. Very intriguing to read about it from the pov of the rapist's family. It also deals with several other issues such as body image. Great read, but not the comedy I thought it was going to be when I read the title.
And of course I agree about everything you said about Harry Potter. :)
I will have to check out those serial killer books you mentioned - they will probably make for very interesting reading. I have also never heard of Timeline, so I will definitely have to look that one up. I'm not sure why the good guy seems to always miss out on the girl, we need to see more good guys winning :)
DeleteI know, that title does make it sound like a light-hearted, comedic read. It sounds interesting and that is the exact thing I am talking about. Just subjects that people don't seem to touch on a lot - and we definitely don't see many books from the rapists families POV - which would be really interesting to read.
I would LOVE LOVE LOVE another book set in the HP world, like I don't think I can be more happy haha! Especially what you mention about Harry's parents, because I love to know more about Lily & Snape.
ReplyDeleteI have a thing for bad boys, it's sad but I do. But I would like some more diverse things in books, so characters going for nice guys would be great. I've recently read and loved Fangirl and the love interest is THE sweetest. He's the ultimate nice guy. So I definitely recommend Fangirl! And yeah, Pivot Point, you should really read that soon. It's awesome!
I will definitely be making sure I get to Pivot Point as soon as I can! I think most people have a thing for bad boys, I'd just love to see good guys win more. I just got Fangirl today, hoping to get to it soon.
DeleteI definitely want more Lily & Snape, that could make for really great reading and I would love to see how that developed over time.
OH YES TO #1!!! Oh eek, how I would love some mroe Harry books <3 I totally agree about Parallel Universe's as well. I loved the few I have read... 3:59 and Pivot Point. (Pivot Point is like 2 dollars on Amazon right now btw). I recommend checking out 3:59... it's very, very good as well!!!
ReplyDeleteI have Pivot Point, I got it at Christmas and I am really excited to finally getting it. I haven't heard of 3:59 but I will definitely be looking it up now :) Thanks for stopping by!
