In My Mailbox & Letterbox Love
IMM is something that was started on TheStorySiren
so click on the link and check out her blog if you want to find out
more about it and how to participate. Letterbox Love was started over at NarrativelySpeaking and is a more UK based version of IMM. This is basically a way for me to
show what books I have received, borrowed or bought each week.
Also check out Friday Finds over on ShouldBeReading and Stacking the Shelves over at TyngaReviews,
I am in love with all of these as I love finding other blogs to follow
and books to read through these! So check them all out and see what you
find, Stacking the Shelves has a lot of participants as well which is
great.
This week I bought:
Falling for a teacher breaks all the rules...
...what if he wants to break them too?
Jenna's parents say they love her. So why do they ignore her?
Jenna's brother says he loves her. So why hasn't he visited her in years?
Jenna's teacher says he loves her. He treats her well, he protects her and he tells her she's beautiful.
Mr Anderson is the only one she can trust.
So why is Jenna telling her story to a detective?
I have two student/teacher romance books this week. I have this authors other book, Ashes, but have still not read it.
The summer I went to England everything changed.
Part of that was because of the war, which supposedly changed lots of things, but I can't remember much of life before the war anyway so it doesn't count in my book, which this is.
Mostly everything changed because of Edmond.
And so here's what happened.
I have to read this before the movie comes out.
Embarrassingly, I already own an older edition of this book (see below) but as it's in one of my many storage boxes filled with books, I could not track it down. So I bought another one. Seriously what is wrong with me?
I much prefer this cover. It's just so pretty!
Rachel has a crush on her English teacher. Mike fancies Rachel too. Neither plans to do anything about it. Then a school play brings them closer together. Really close.
Romeo and Juliet is a very romantic play, but this is real life. The star-crossed ,lovers are constantly afraid of discovery, of losing everything. What begins as a schoolgirl fantasy has turned into an X-rated nightmare.
Yes, two student/teacher romances in one week. This was a book that was recommended to me but I am not 100% sold on it at this point. The cover snob in me was put off by the plain cover. But also, it's really hard to describe, but the book just feels wrong when you hold it. I know I sound crazy but you would understand if you felt it.
Belle Epoque
by
Elizabeth Ross
In the search for perfect beauty, the ugly face of Paris will be revealed...
When sixteen-year-old Maude runs away to Paris, her romantic dreams vanish as quickly as her savings. Increasingly desperate for money, she turns to the mysterious Durandeau Agency, who convince Maude to become repoussoir - an unattractive young woman hired by Parisian socialites to enhance their beauty.
Maude is humiliated - but what choice does she have?
Thrown into a world of parties, glamour and astonishing cruelty, Maude quickly discovers that a disturbing ugliness lurks beneath bohemian Paris's glittering facade.
This is a story of fate, love, friendship and the true meaning of being beautiful.
This was new in at work, but if I am honest I will probably not end up reading it. However, I rather adored the cover and had to share it with you all.
The Weight of Souls
by
Bryony Pearce
Sixteen-year-old Taylor Oh is cursed: if she is touched by the ghost of a murder victim then they pass a mark to her skin. She has three weeks to find their murderer and pass the mark to them - and if she doesn't make it in time? The Darkness will come for her...
When Justin Hargreaves - one of the most popular boys at school and Taylor's worst enemy - is murdered, life gets a whole lot worse for her. Justin denies that he was ever killed, so Taylor has to solve the mystery before she can lay him to rest. This leads her to the terrifying V society, and a game of Truth or Dare that has gone very wrong.
For some reason we received a large selection of Strange Chemistry books this week, who I have never heard of. Again, I don't think I will read this one but I can never seem to help myself when it comes to books. I love this cover as well.
Ask the Passengers
by
A. S. King
How do you give your love away when no one seems to want it? You send it to the sky and hope the right person catches it.
Astrid Jones spends hours lying on the backyard picnic table watching aeroplanes fly overhead. She doesn't know the passengers inside, but they're the only people who won't judge her when she asks them her most personal questions... like what it means that she is falling in love with a girl. Astrid can't share the truth with anyone else in her life - her pushy mother, her uninterested father, and over-interested friends wouldn't understand. But little does Astrid know just how much even the tiniest connection with the people at thirty thousand feet will affect their lives - and her own - for the better.
In this truly original portrayal of a girl who refuses to be labelled, Printz Honor author A. S. King offers hope to those struggling to break free of society's boxes and definitions.
First and foremost, I have to say I love the authors name because it spells asking. Yes, I am a loser! I ordered this book in because I had seen it on multiple best read of 2013 lists. It sounds really interesting and I am definitely going to read this one.. eventually.
This week I received for review:
For Kitty Doe, it seems like an easy choice. She can spend her life as a III in misery, looked down upon by the higher ranks and forced to leave the people she loves, or she can become a VII and join the most powerful family in the country.
If she says yes, Kitty will be Masked - surgically transformed into Lila Hart, the Prime Minister's niece, who died under mysterious circumstances. As a member of the Hart family, she will be famous. She will be adored. And for the first time, she will matter.
There's only one catch. She must also stop the rebellion that Lila secretly fostered, the same one that got her killed... and one Kitty believes in. Faced with threats, conspiracies and a life that's not her own, she must decide which path to choose - and learn how to become more than a pawn in a twisted game she's only beginning to understand.
Damn you NetGalley. You keep adding titles that I just have to have, that I stupidly request and then have to wait ages before I actually have the time to read them. I just had to have this though, it's got amazing reviews and I need a new book series to fall in love with.
These Broken Stars
by
Amie Kaufman & Meagan Spooner
It's a night like any other on board the Icarus. Then, catastrophe strikes: the massive luxury spaceliner is yanked out of hyperspace and plummets into the nearest planet. Lila LaRoux and Tarver Merendsen survive. And they seem to be alone.
Lilac is the daughter of the richest man in the universe. Tarver comes from nothing, a young war hero who learned long ago that girls like Lilac are more trouble than they're worth. But with only each other to rely on, Lilac and Tarver must work together, making a tortuous journey across the eerie, deserted terrain to seek help.
Then, against all odds, Lilac and Tarver find a strange blessing in the tragedy that has thrown them into each other's arms. Without the hope of a future together in their world, they begin to wonder - would they be better off staying here forever?
Everything changes when they uncover the truth behind the chilling whispers that haunt their every step. Lilac and Tarver may find a way off this planet. But they won't be the same people who landed on it.
The first in a sweeping science fiction trilogy, These Broken Stars is a timeless love story about hope and survival in the face of unthinkable odds.
Another amazing title from NetGalley. I have seen this on so many blogs that I have been reading that I had to request it myself. I was unsure whether I would get it, so I was really happy when my request was accepted. This had some really incredible reviews so I hope I can read it soon.
Crash Into You
by
Katie McGarry
The girl with straight As, designer clothes and the perfect life - that's who people expect Rachel Young to be. So the private-school junior keeps secrets from her wealthy parents and overbearing brothers... and she's just added two more to the list. One involves racing strangers down dark country roads in her Mustang GT. The other? Seventeen-year-old Isaiah Walker - a guy she has no business even talking to. But when the foster kid with the tattoos and intense grey eyes comes to her rescue, she can't get him out of her mind.
Isaiah has secrets too. About where he lives, and how he really feels about Rachel. The last thing he needs is to get tangled up with a rich girl who wants to slum it on the south side for kicks - no matter how angelic she might look.
But when their shared love of street racing puts both their lives in jeopardy, they have six weeks to come up with a way out. Six weeks to discover just how far they'll go to save each other.
Another one I have seen everywhere. Getting approved for this probably means I should read the first two books but we shall see.
Well that's all the books for this week.
Please post links to your own book hauls so I can come check them out.
I also need to say hello and thank you to SomeLikeItParanormal. My second follower ever. I am new to blogging so this is kind of a big deal for me!

Wow awesome choices here. The Weitght of Souls is on my TBR list. I didn't do a Friday Finds today but am helping promote a new author. Here is the link if you want to check it out. http://cynthiastacey.com/2013/10/04/amber-sky-forbes-new-young-adult-paranormal-romance-author/
ReplyDeleteYeah will check it out, always looking for new books!
DeleteOooh, a lot of interesting choices you've got there! I don't know that I've ever read a book featuring a teacher/student romance and Drowning Instinct sounds especially intriguing...
ReplyDeleteBelle Epoque is on my 'to read' list, but I don't know if I'll ever get to it. I much prefer the cover you posted than the other one on GoodReads, it's just so much brighter!
I also may have to add The Weight of Souls to my list... Drat, I'm up to eight already for next week's post with the two you've posted that have intrigued me. And here I was thinking I was going to have a shorter list for the 11th. Doesn't look like it's gonna happen anytime soon if I keep looking at other people's lists and reviews! *laughs*
I have the exact same issue, I have been looking at other book hauls all morning and my TBR list is growing to a ridiculous size!
DeleteI confess I haven't read these ones but I'm curious about Pawn, I was wondering if I wanted to ask it or not. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteI have just started reading Pawn and so far I am really enjoying it. Reminds me of other dystopian books, like The Selection & Legend. So far so good though.
DeleteI've seen some of these titles on NetGalley and the others, I'm not familiar with. But anyhow, awesome haul! I'm also looking forward to These Broken Stars though I don't want to request for a review copy as I probably won't be able to read it before the release date. Happy reading and thanks for dropping by! :)
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping to get to it soon, I have seen it on so many blogs and they have all spoken really highly of it.
DeleteThanks for stopping by my STS! I received Pawn too, can't wait to read it! Drowning Instinct sounds interesting, but I haven't been able to find a teacher/student book that I love yet. Enjoy your reads!
ReplyDeleteNeither have I, that's why I'm not so sure about them. They'll probably sit unread for quite a while!
DeleteCrashing Into You. Woop Woop. So excited for that book.
ReplyDeleteI need to read the first two now, didn't realise it was the third in a series!
DeleteReally liked Belle Epoque and Drowning Instinct is good. Happy reading.
ReplyDeleteMaybe I should give Belle Epoque a chance then, I haven't seen any reviews for it yet.
DeleteHow I Live Now was really good. Disturbing, but good.
ReplyDeleteHappy reading!
My StS.
I've heard really great things about it and I wanted to read it before seeing the film, but now the films got terrible reviews I may just stick with the book!
DeleteI love the Katie McGarry series. following you via GFC, but would like to follow you via bloglovin, but I see no button for it. Belle Epoque has a very nice cover. Come visit me as well.

DeleteOh wow! You've got some amazing books this week. Some look so intriguing. Happy Reading :-)
ReplyDeleteThank you, I shall enjoy them all I hope!
DeleteA lot of these are new to me. Drowning Instinct looks interesting. I am dying for Pawn and All These Stars! I also have Crash Into You. Enjoy! Thanks for stopping by!
ReplyDeletePawn is really good so far, reminds me in some ways of The Selection, Legend and others.
DeleteOOH pretty books!
ReplyDeleteI received Pawn and I can't wait to read it! I also want to read These Broken Stars, it looks amazing! :)
Enjoy your new books!
Kyra @ Blog of a Bookaholic
My My STS post!
Thanks, I am currently reading Pawn and it is really, really good so far! :)
DeleteI love love love that cover of Belle Epoque! The USA cover is nice, but not as gorgeous. And ooo, I hope you love These Broken Stars! Somehow, since May, I ended up with two ARCs of that book. It's so pretty! :D
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting my blog!
Alyssa @ The Eater of Books!
I love seeing the difference between covers from USA and UK and choosing which one I love more! I am hoping to read These Broken Stars soon, so I hope it's good.
DeleteI love Katie McGarry, and I do thnk reading the first two books would be good. However, it's more of a companion novel than a series, so if you don't I'm sure it would be okay. I mean, I'm sure everything would make sense.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I hope you like it and all your other goodies. Hapoy reading :)
I always feel the need to read books in order though, even if they are companion novels.
DeleteThanks for stopping by =)
Nice. I'm so excited to get my hands on Crash Into You and These Broken Stars both looks amazing. I hope you enjoy your new books :)
ReplyDelete-Mari @ The Sirenic Codex
I'm really excited to read These Broken Stars so I hope I get to read it soon! Thanks for visiting! =)
DeleteI remember lots of my friends loving How I Live Now when it was first released, I'd love to read it before the film comes out.
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting my blog, I'm a new follower :)
~Ailsa @The Book Bundle
I have heard some really great things about How I Live Now, so I'm really looking forward to that one. Sad the film has got such bad reviews though, so don't think i'll be going to see that now.
DeleteAnd you're welcome, I love finding new blogs and books!
Love Lessons looks like a great read. I got approved for Crash Into You as well! I figured out a couple of hours ago and freaked out because I'm so excited! Can't get enough of Katie McGarry's books! I hope you enjoy all you got :)
ReplyDeleteHere's my STS!
Ha I know the feeling, I really wanted Pawn and I was approved ridiculously quickly (usually I'm left waiting ages, thinking I'm not getting it), I literally squeeled with excitement!
DeleteI haven't read any of hers, but am planning to read all three from the Pushing the Limits series.
Thanks for visiting my blog, I am so new to this so every new comment makes me stupidly happy!
I've read Drowning Instinct few months ago - it's an intriguing story. I can't wait to read Crash Into You - I got it too.
ReplyDeleteGlass @ Way Too Hot Books
I'll have to read the other two first, oops! But I'm hoping they're all good. I really like the sound of Drowning Instinct, so glad you thought it was good.
DeleteOoooo, a lot of these are new to me, so I'll definitely have to check them out! I hope you enjoy all of them!! :)
ReplyDeleteThis is usually how I find new books to buy, by looking up all the new ones I see on people STS posts.
DeleteI've been hearing so many crazy things about HOW I LIVE NOW so I would definitely look for your review! Also I didn't realize A.S.King spelled out asking until now. XP I'm terrible! >____< But I love her she is one of my favorite authors. Her book PLEASE IGNORE VERA DIETZ--stole my heart. Charlie. <3 And ASK THE PASSENGERS sounds like such a moving book, I went to read a little excerpt and the first few pages sounds good already! Too bad, i couldn't buy it cause my mom said I have already bought too many and should finish the books i haven't read at home. And also THESE BROKEN STARS. Let's just take a minute to evaluate over that cover. * 0 *
ReplyDeleteHope you enjoy, darling! ^^
The cover for These Broken Stars, probably counted for 90% of the reasons I had for requesting it, it's amazing. I am so glad to hear good things about A. S. King as I have never heard of her before, but the book sounded so intriguing that I had to track it down. I will have to try and find Ignore Vera Dietz now! I'll be reading Ask The Passengers soon, and I'm very excited!
DeleteThanks for commenting, I love when you can just tell that someone loves books as much you do!!
I SO want to read Belle Epoque, but I don't think my library has it yet. Boo. Ask the Passengers and These Broken Stars look like they'll be really good as well. They all kind of sound good though. Haha. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteWhen they all sound good I know I'm going to struggle trying to decide which one to read first. I wasn't sure about Belle Epoque but everyone elses excitement seems to be rubbing off on me and now I really want to read it!
DeleteGreat selection of books! I got Crash Into You last week after requesting it for the same reason as you but still haven't read the others...ooops! Definitely know what you mean about a book feeling wrong in your hands though, I do it with books that come into my library all the time but still end up taking them home and never reading them - but there are definitely a lot of great books there, happy reading! :)
ReplyDeleteI know, I am very guilty of this. Most of the books I borrow end up getting returned a few weeks later unread! Well I'm glad I didn't sound too crazy then, but a book should feel right.
DeleteGood haul. While How I Live Now didn't interest me as a book, when I saw the trailer for the film I was intrigued about it. The Weight of Souls and Ask the Passengers sound interesting.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy all your reads, My Stacking the Shelves
Thanks! I have just been hearing so many good things and seeing some really great reviews for How I Live Now that I wanted to give it a try. Yeah, hoping to get to Ask The Passengers soon.
DeleteDrowning Instinct and Love Lessons both sound amazing, and I'm so so jealous of Crash Into You! I hope you enjoy all these amazing reads!! :D

DeleteI have to limit my use of Netgalley because I obtain too many books from them. So I hardly use it anymore (I know, sad). Thanks for mentioning Ashes; I kept wondering why that author sounded so familiar. And I do want to read Pawn one day. Great haul this week!
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting my haul.
Oh god I know, I have been trying to restrain myself when it comes to Netgalley but it is really hard. I thinki I have 5 sitting on there waiting to be read and then I feel bad!!!
DeleteI'm almost done with Pawn and it is really good so far!
Great haul! I also need to read Meg Rosoff's books. I was excited about receiving Pawn too!
ReplyDeleteSo far I am loving it, hope you enjoy it!
DeleteHey, have you got a GREAT haul!! Some of them are new to me, but others are not. These are the ones I'm just DYING to get: "The Weight of Souls", "Pawn" (this one I've only seen on one other blog), "These Broken Stars", and "Crash Into You". Like, I HAVE to have these!!!
ReplyDeleteNow that I've seen it, I also have to get "How I Live Now". The plot sounds very intriguing indeed! And I totally agree with you about the pretty cover. You know, you remind me of myself when you say you bought another copy of the same book because you couldn't find it, since it's in a storage box! Lol. Although I don't have any books in storage, they are all over the place, in stacks, in my living room and bedroom. I can't tell you how many times I've bought another copy because I don't know what stack a book is buried in.....lol.
I also agree with you about the cover of "Love Lessons". I'm a cover nut, so I can tell you that this one is totally BLAH. As for the book 'feeling wrong' in your hands, what an interesting observation! Sounds like this one really won't appeal to you when you actually read it.
Thanks for such an interesting post, as well as sharing all these books! Thanks as well for commenting on my own STS!! And now you have another follower! : )
This comment made me way too happy, your love of books totally shows and I love that!
DeleteOh I have too many books and not enough places to put them, my bookshelves are all full and I had to compromise with the boyfriend that if I was going to keep buying books then some would have to be put in storage boxes in the spare room. My room is a lot more organised and now looks twice as big but I miss them!!! Makes finding books so difficult so will have to go through and make a note of which books are in which!
The whole book feeling wrong sounds weird but it's because it's quite a thin book but the spine is strangely heavy, like hardback kind of heavy when it's a tiny little paperback. Just seems strange when you pick it up!
Thanks so much for your comment, it made me smile! I love finding people who have such an infectious love of books! You definately have a follower in me!
I got Pawn and Crash into You this week too. I own Ask the Passengers, but haven't read it yet, and I think I read How I Live Now but it was a long time ago. I hope you love all your new pretties!
ReplyDeleteMy STS New GFC follower.
Thanks, have just finished Pawn and it was really good so hope you like it! I know the feeling, most of the books I own I still haven't got around to reading! Well you will have a follower in me :) I am very excited for How I Live Now!
DeleteThanks for stopping by my post earlier! New follower! You got some great books. Drowning Instinct has a great cover. Oh I've already read These Broken Stars and really enjoyed it. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteSandy @ Somewhere Only We Know
I was trying to decide what to read next and thankfully a good recommendation is what I need right now as I'm stumped. So These Broken Stars it is! Thanks for taking the time to stop by and comment, you have a new follower in me!
DeleteSo jealous of what you've received to review! I can't wait to get my hands on Pawn, Crash Into You, and These Broken Stars! The other books look awesome as well and have added a few to my TBR list!
ReplyDeleteJust finished Pawn, it was really great so I hope you get to read it soon!
DeleteGreat books! Hope you enjoy!
ReplyDeleteThanks! =D
DeleteOoh! You got lots of good stuff this week! :) I really liked The Weight of Souls! Strange Chemistry is a young adult imprint of Angry Robot, which is a science-fiction/fantasy publisher based out of the UK. They've only been around for a couple of years at the most, but a lot of their books are really good--and very different from much of YA.
ReplyDeleteAnd yay for being a new blogger! It's so much fun, so I hope you stick with it. And hey! No worries about requesting stuff you won't get to for a while. I'm so very guilty of that. I don't even want to know how many books I have waiting to be read and reviewed, but I keep requesting more! :)
Rachel @ Paper Cuts
Good to know, we got about ten books in at my work and I had never seen them before. They all have really intriguing covers and I had to stop myself taking them all home!
DeleteWell I'm glad I'm not the only one who requests too much. My main problem is I buy too many, I have almost 500 books and have only read about 200! As soon as I think I'll start one I've bought, I either get a new NetGalley or borrow something from work!
Great haul! I love the cover of Belle Epoque. I'm so excited for These Broken Stars! And yay Pawn haha. Hope you enjoy all your books! Thanks for stopping by Bookmunchies (:
ReplyDeleteThanks so much :) and you are welcome, I am enjoying looking at all the blogs and finding so many new books to read! I think I may start These Broken Stars next as it's been recommended to me by so many people.
DeleteThese Broken Stars and Belle Epoque both sound amazing! I loved Crash Into You, it was my favorite of the whole series. I hope you enjoy all your books :)
ReplyDeleteI need to read that series, people are saying some amazing things about them all! =D
DeleteI've heard of Ask the Passengers. Hope you like it. New follower :D
ReplyDeleteMe too, hoping to get to it soon! Thanks so much, you have a new follower in me!
DeleteI loved 'How I Live Now' (book and film) I hope you do too! Enjoy your new reads and thanks for stopping by :)
ReplyDeleteWell I'm glad to hear a positive review for the film from someone who's actually read the book. I'm looking forward to getting to this one soon!
DeleteThe Love Lessons cover does look kind of creepy. I've been meaning to read Drowning Instinct, but I'm not too sure about reading student/teacher. Congrats on These Broken Stars! I didn't get approved on that one, jealous! :) Happy reading.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by mine.

Yeah creepy but also dull, they say never judge a book by its cover but I can't help it! I was so sure I wouldn't be, I'm reading it now and it's really good so I hope you can read it soon.
DeleteI loved Belle Epoque and These Broken Stars - hope you love them as much as I did! I just received Pawn and Crash Into You from Netgalley, too. :) Hopefully we'll both enjoy them!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for stopping by my blog.
Well I wasn't going to read Belle Epoque but now everyone is telling me that it was really good. The enthusiasm is contagious and now I'm going to have to give it a go!
DeleteI really enjoy Amiee Carter's writing! I had no idea she had another book coming out! Also I can't wait for Crash Into You, I hope you enjoy them!
ReplyDeleteYeah I've just finished, it's a really good addition to the dystopian genre! :D
DeleteWe have Pawn and Crash in common this week. Drowning and Belle look really good. Happy reading and thanks for stopping by :)
ReplyDeleteFinished Pawn and it was really great! Hope you enjoy! Thanks for checking my blog out =)
DeleteSo many great books! Can't wait to see what you think of Crash Into You and Pawn. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteJust finished Pawn and I really enjoyed it, change my rating from 4 to 3.5 but now thinking maybe it should stay a 4!
DeleteI have Pawn, Crash into You, and These Broken Stars for review too! I hope you enjoy them!
ReplyDeleteFinished Pawn a few days ago, was really great and just finished These Broken Stars, which was really great too! :D

ReplyDeleteI was accepted for PAWN on Saturday (after I made my post) and literally cannot wait to start it. Doesn't it sound great?! THESE BROKEN STARS sounds amazing and I LOVE that cover. I've seen CRASH INTO YOU around quite a bit but I haven't read the series. Sounds like everyone is excited about it. Enjoy your new books, you got a lot of great ones this week!
Christine @ The Bookish Daydreamer
I really enjoyed Pawn and have literally just finished These Broken Stars and it was really great! :D Review will be up soon.
DeleteI am so green with envy right now. Crash Into You, Pawn, and These Broken Stars. How did you get all of these beauties? These are all on my TBR pile. I actually put in a request for TSB but got disapproved. *sighs* Anyway, have fun reading it.
ReplyDeleteI'll just have to wait for December and buy the book.
Thanks for stopping by Thoughts and Pens.
I do not even know how I managed to get them all, was very excited!!! Hope you get to read it soon!! =D
