Never Never by Colleen Hoover & Tarryn Fisher

Never Never (Never Never, #1)Title: Never Never

Charlize Wynwood and Silas Nash have been best friends since before they could walk. They've been in love since the age of fourteen. But as of this morning... they are complete strangers. Their first kiss, their first fight, the moment they fell in love... every memory has vanished. Charlize and Silas must work together to uncover the truth about what happened to them and why. But the more they learn about the couple they used to be... the more they question why they were ever together to begin with.
There have been a lot of books that I have found quite difficult to review, but those books were nothing compared to Never Never. It's hard to review something that isn't even a complete book, just part one in a serial that I have no idea how many more volumes are coming. But it's also hard to review something when you actually have no idea how you feel about the book. My opinion on this can be changed drastically if there isn't any good explanation for the memory loss they both suffer.

Charlie and Silas both find themselves in school, with absolutely no memory of who they are or why they are there. They don't remember each other, or the fact they have been dating for four years. They work together to try and find out why this has happened to them. But the more they find out about themselves and who they were as a couple, the more they begin to question everything. Now that is a rather interesting, if somewhat confusing, premise for a book and so I would have wanted to read it anyway, even if it wasn't by my auto-buy author Miss Hoover.

My NN feels in one gif.
This book was enjoyable, but very confusing. It's confused me to the point where I can't even decide if it was good or not. It's an incomplete book, so I don't really know what my feelings are. Volume 1 was good, but it's only good if there is going to be a decent explanation as to how these two people suddenly lost their memories. And also a decent explanation as to why they are even together, when they clearly had a rather messed up relationship.

I'd like to say that this is a review that will give you all some idea as to whether you want to read this or not. I'd be lying. This is really just me trying to get my thoughts down and finally decide what I'm actually feeling when it comes to this book. But all I am feeling right now is confused. I liked getting to know the characters, but you're getting to know them as they get to know themselves. I'm just generally confused by the whole 'I have no idea who I am' aspect of the story and how that came about. BUT I WANT TO KNOW! This book has succeeded in making me desperate to find out what happens next. I need to know what the hell is going on and why these characters have suddenly started having memory loss.

4/5 Butterflies

When I first finished this book I put it down as a 5/5 read, because it was one I couldn't put down and really did intrigue me. But it's confusing and not a lot happens in volume 1, considering it's only 150 pages. I need answers and feel like I don't have much faith right now that those answers are going to make any sense. I don't feel disappointed by this book at all, I still really enjoyed it. I just require more. I feel like volume 2 might give me some idea of what I actually feel about this book and the characters. At least I hope so! I still highly recommend all things Hoover, that woman never disappoints me.

  2. I've heard about Never Never before, and I thought the basic plot sounded intriguing. I didn't realise that it was so short though - how can a plot like that be explored fully and explained I do few pages??? Incomplete books are the worst :(

  3. ^ I've never heard of Never Never either. =o The blurb was very interesting, although the driving force of the story didn't seem all the powerful. The fact that you feel so confused makes me feel doubtful. Even in a serial, each part should be able to be enjoyed in a self-contained way (that's what I think anyway). So I'm giving this one a miss. Thanks for sharing! Great review.

    1. I did enjoy it, it's just that it's far too short and I feel like I need more. I want more.

  4. Literally read this myself last night and I just - nope nope nope nope, why that ending, why?! It hit my favourites, got the full 5 stars from me, and I agree, it does feel like not a huge amount happened, but when I think back on it, I feel like what happened is a good amount considering it's length and the plot. I'm totally just waiting impatiently now, urgh, why make me wait so long..

  5. I really enjoyed Never Never, but I was completely confused too. It's so weird but so very entertaining. I'm definitely looking forward to reading volume 2! This is a really great review, Charnell!

  6. Lots of people had issues with this book. I think this might be one of those series where you really do need all the books out at once to read back to back to enjoy and understand the full story. I think I will be waiting until that happens before trying it.

    1. I did enjoy it, it's just that I want and need more. It's hard to get stuck into the story when you only get a tiny part of it.

  7. Agreed, my thoughts and feelings were everywhere as well. As soon as I finished it rated it 5. But when I sat down and actually thought about it I had to lower my rating to a 3.
Hoover is also an auto-buy for me. But if I had known this was a part 1 I wouldn't have read it until part 2 was out. I hate that they did this. It was totally misleading. The reader didn't know that until the story stopped suddenly. Ugh! Also I had a really hard time connecting to the characters. Probably because the book was so short. But also because I didn't like them and found the romance lacking and unbelievable. But the mystery aspect was good. I have no idea what's going on or what's going to happen. So props probably go to Fisher for that.
At least we have Confess to look forward to in 2 weeks. :)
    Happy reading!

    1. I knew it was only short and was going to have loads of sequels because she released a blog post about it I think. But it still sucked to get to that cliffhanger ending. It's not the worst cliffhanger I've seen though and I am still looking forward to number 2.

  8. I've never actually read anything from both authors even though I've heard good things. The premise really does sound interesting and intriguing though, and I can see why you couldn't put it down but serials! They're a bit evil! And you're right, serials can start strong but end as a disappointment which is why I wait for them to finish. As I said though, I've been hearing good things about these authors and since Hoover is an auto-buy, I'm sure you trust her to deliver! :D Lovely review, Charnell!

    1. It was a really good book but I think the serial aspect of it is what's hard. You're not getting enough of the story, but at least it left me wanting more.

  9. It seems like the rating to this one and the opinion sort of depends on what comes next - but putting that aside that you liked it! I was surprised by the amount of DNF and one star reviews I'd seen on goodreads, so now it is good to see a more positive light shed on the book!

    1. It really does. Book two needs to be absolutely epic or it could mean I've found my first Hoover book that I don't actually like. We shall see. I'm nervous.

  10. I don't know if this is the book for me. I don't mind being confused about certain things in books, but if it happens throughout the whole book... I don't know. Great review, though, and thanks for sharing.

    1. It's not the awful kind of confusing that bugs you whilst you read, I just finished the book and wanted more answers. But it's a serial series so that is probably why.

  11. While I like the premise of this book and I LOVE Colleen Hoover, it must be pretty frustrating to find that this is just part 1. I think I will only pickt his up when it's in its entirety. Great review Charnell!

  12. I loved it, but it's just so annoying to me that they're releasing it this way. Granted I don't have to buy it until it's all out, but as someone who lacks self-control, that wasn't going to happen. So basically I bought and read PART OF A BOOK. 150 pages. That is NOT a novel. And it's not even a novella because it's not a complete story. Loved it, but I want to read a complete story. ~Pam
