Threshing Day Recap / Summary

I have made no secret of the fact I have a horrible memory and completely forget important book details when there is a long wait between book releases in a series. I would always go back and reread previous books each time a new one would drop and it got a little exhasting. I've since started making myself recaps - I've done them for series like Throne of Glass, ACOTAR, Crescent City and Red Rising.

I do chapter by chapter ones as I need to give myself as much detail as possible. They may be too detailed for some, but I share them in hopes they are useful to anyone with a memory like mine.

One thing to note is that I write these for me and type them out very quickly and so I apologise for any spelling mistakes. And also I know my brain likely confused there, their and they're multiple times while fast typing so again... SORRY!

Threshing Day Recap / Summary

Trial by Fire: Threshing advice for Dragonkind professors by Colonel Thadeus Palme - Brief explanation of what the Threshing is. That a professor's loyalty is with the Empyrean but they have an interest in the first years succeeding. They must give their class an accurate idea of which dragons are willing to bond so students can prepare. Dragons prefer cadets who enter the Valley alone and not in groups. Cadets may hear a dragon callimg them if they made a strong impression at Presentation.

Brennan: Info on his dragon Marbh: He is around 76, has had 3 recorded riders, is descended from the Fhaicorain line and is an orange daggertail.

Brennan's father has come to the valley to see him, even though Brennan thought he was off on a classified mission. Gives Brennan his bracelet as a gift.

Brennan climbs a tree so he can look down on the valley and try to spot the dragon meant for him. He doesn't feel any pull. He sees Marbh across from him, he talks to him in his head. Marbh asks if he wants to play a game and he agrees - if Brennan can find his seat without touching the ground then Marbh will accept Brennan as his rider and if not, he dies.

Brennan manages to jump on to Marbh's face and climb up it as the dragon flies. Eventually makes it to his seat on the dragon's back.

Mira: Info on her dragon Teine: Age of around 41, no other rider, a green clubtail and descended from the Cruaidhuaine line.

She saw Teine during Presentation and already decided he was her dragon. Currently looking for him but hasn't spotted him. She is worried for Brennan who is at the front currently.

Mira hears a voice telling her to move, follows that instinct and it leads her to Teine. They speak, he cuts open her leg with his talons to see how she reacts. He accepts her as his rider.

Xaden: Info on his dragon Sgaeyl. She's around 64, has had 3 previous riders, is a blue daggertail and is descended from he Gormfaileas line.

Him and 9 other marked children are taking part in the Threshing. As likely to be killed by other students as they are dragons. They go off in pairs, Xaden with Garrick.

Prince Alic sneaks up on them, puts a dagger to Garrick's throat. Then two of Alic's friends arrive, Lorne and Eian, who draw their swords on Xaden. Then order them to walk forwards. Come across one blue dragon before Sgaeyl arrives next to it.

When a third marked one shows up, Xaden finally makes his move, and they all begin to fight. Eian gets stabbed by Garrick. Lorne is killed too. Xaden cuts Alic's throat and kills him.

Sgaeyl burns the bodies and turns them to nothing so nobody knows what they did. She calls him the grandson of Maxim Riorson, but he says he is the grandson of Corbin Riorson and that Maxin was his great-uncle.

She asks what he will do with all the power she gives him. He tells her that once he completes his mission with the marked ones, he'd love the burn this entire place down. She accepts him as her rider.

Garrick: Info on his dragon Chradh. He's 27, had 0 riders before, is a brown Scorpiontail and is descended from Aldayrmar line.

Garrick has been hearing a dragon's voice in his head since he arrived at the forest.

He is looking forward to the next year when 'she' arrives, the girl he has loved since she punched him in the face at 9 years old.

Chradh talks of finally deciding to involve himself with human's again, which confuses Garrick because he has never had a rider before.

Dain: Info on his dragon Cath. Has had 2 other riders, is 89 and he is a red swordtail from the Berradhdyr line.

Dain's dad is there, he keeps finding ways to pop in to see Dain. He is mad all the marked made it through the Threshing the year before and there are now even more taking part this year. Tells Dain to keep an eye on them and inform him if any of them break the Codex.

His dad wants him to pick a green dragon. He sees both a red and green dragon and knows one is talking to him, it tells him to choose and if he chooses wrong he will be burnt to death. He chooses the red.

Bodhi: Info on his dragon Cuir. A 59 year old green swordtail with 1 previous rider, descended from the Uaineloidsig line.

Xaden comes to observe/help Bodhi and pass on information. Tells him a green dragon has chosen him already.

A blue dragon is about to burn him to death when Cuir picks him up and rescues him. Cuir chose him because he seeks power in order to stop harm.

Imogen: Info on her dragon Glane. She's had 0 riders before, is about 19, from the Fhaicorain line and an orange daggertail.

After the presentation, Imogen had a claiming mark on her hip of an orange daggertail that she has told no one about.

Garrick pops out. he is there to watch her. She has a crush on him but won't do anything about it. She's the one who hit him as a child, the girl he's in love with.

He questions why she hasn't spoken to him since she got to Basgiath. When she makes some remark about all the women she's seen him with he says all she needs is to say the word and he won't even look at another woman.

She snaps at him - is clearly upset he left to come here without saying goodbye to her. Her and 2 others were the only marked ones who were fostered alone and not as a pair. Her desire to get away from the conversation has her agree to the bond with Glane.

Imogen is friends with Quinn but Glane tries to kill her. Imogen threatens to reveal Glane's real identity if she harms her. Knows who Glane really is and that she bonded Imogen even if it is forbidden, as she was originally her grandmother's dragon.

Rhiannon: Info on her dragon Feirge, a green daggertail who is from the Uaineloidsig line, has had 3 other riders and is 87.

Rhiannon hears her dragon's voice in her head, has known since the Presentation that her dragon will be the green daggertail.

Rhiannon comes across a girl who has had her face melted by a dragon and wants to stay to protect her. Her dragon finds her and they fly off together. (It is time to confess that by this point I am wishing I could get back the £11 I spent on this 210 page ebook because... what is the point of this?!?)

Sawyer: Sawyer's dragon is 73, has had 2 previous riders, is a red swordtail, is called Sliseag and is from the Berradhdyr line.

This is Sawyer's second Threshing, as he didn't get chosen by a dragon the year before. Sawyer plans to get chosen or killed this time.

He teams up with Trina and they walk and come across two dragons, an orange and a red. The orange is Trina's. The red chooses him as he likes Sawyer's anger that he hides.

Trina falls from her dragon and dies.

Ridoc: Info on his dragon Aotrom, a brown swordtail. From the Aldayrmar line, no other rider before him and around 21 years old.

He doesn't want the brown swordtail that has clearly chosen him, as he thinks the dragon is too young. They argue until Ridoc realises Aotrom is the dragon version of him and he does want to be matched with him.

Liam: His dragon is Deigh, 1 previous rider, 62 years old, a red daggertail and descended from Wybjorian line.

He is sitting under a tree and carving, waiting for his dragon who he knows will find him. Xaden shows up to talk to him. He teases Xaden about his obvious attraction to Violet. Xaden leaves and Deigh finds him.

Sloane: Her dragon had 1 previous rider, is called Thoirt and is a red daggertail. She's around 62 and is from the Wybjorian line.

Sloane doesn't actually want to be picked by a dragon, she's actually come here to die. Imogen finds her and talks to her, defends Violet to her. She gives Sloane the daggertail carving that Liam was carrying on him when he died.

She tries multiple times to get a dragon to kill her but none of them do. When she finds one finally about to kill her she is pushed out of the way by Dain Aetos. She fights with him, blames him for Liam's death.

Her dragon is the sister to Deigh, her brother's dragon. Says they can help each other. Thoirt knows she doesn't want power and agrees not to channel to her until she wants it. Sloane agrees.

Aaric: His dragon has had 0 other riders, is almost 40 and descended from the Gormfaileas line. His name is Molvic and he is a blue clubtail.

Aaric's brother Alic died here three years ago and they never got any explanation as to what happened or why. Aaric is determined to be chosen by Molvic.

Molvic appears and Aaric insists he is his. Molvic says he chose his brother once but he was a disappointment. Aaric insists he will bond with Molvic or die and that Molvic knows that Aaric intends to tear his kingdom apart. Molvic agrees.

I can't lie, I don't even think this needs a recap because it feels almost entirely pointless.
