Book Blogger Test

Today is Tuesday! Thought I'd point that out to you all in case you didn't know. Tuesday is usually a Top Ten Tuesday day for me, but this weeks topic was favourite classics or classics I want to read and I didn't have an answer for either. I don't read many and don't have many I want to read, so my list would have been very short. So instead, I'm finally going to get to the Book Blogger Test tag. Thanks to everyone who tagged me!

I got confused on this question because I got tagged by a few people and they all interpreted this question in different ways. Some did a list of three things they hate in books and others did hates about books and some did complete others. It left me a tad confused.

So now I needed to decide how I was going to do it, and I decided to cheat. I will do my three book hates in books and then other three to do with books.

1. Broken or cracked spines: I hate them. I am OCD with my books and so most of them look like they have never been read. I never crack open my books really wide, the broken spines would make me want to actually cry.

2. Lending books: Yes, I hate lending out my books. But mainly my hate is people who don't take care of other peoples books. I used to lend them out until they came back in horrible conditions that made me want to weep in despair.

3. Book cover changes halfway through a series: You know, and then they don't release a matching cover for book one. Noooooo! If they do this than they must release new covers for all of them. But, I still hate it because I love all my covers to match. So sometimes I actually have to rebuy books I already own just so they do match.

or

1. Insta-love: I hate it, it's overused and makes no logical sense. They meet and then suddenly they are in love. I hate it, it should be banned from all fiction.

2. Love triangles: Especially since they are never actually triangles. That would mean the two guys or girls would also have to want each other. They are as overused as insta-love and, while some can be really effective, they're getting pretty old. I roll my eyes whenever a love triangle appears in a book.
3. The bad boy who's really just an arsehole: Why do people find these guys appealing? WHY!?!

My perfect reading spot that I actually read in is my bed. It's warm, cosy and has an abundance of amazing pillows to sink into it. But, if I can pick any reading spot in the whole world then it would be something like this:

1. I don't really get classics. I'm sorry, I just don't. What makes a book a classic? Who defines these? And when do recently released books get decided that they are 'Modern Classics'? I know it's all relative but it still bugs me. What made those authors so special that their work was what was seen to be something that need remembering. And why did they have to bore us with them all in English. Some I have read and really enjoyed, but a lot have been really boring. So, in all honestly, I am not the biggest fan of classics and now don't seek many out to read.

2. I love quite a lot of movie tie in covers. I know a lot of people hate them but I think some of them are really beautiful. If I end up loving the movie tie in version then I will usually buy it, even if I own the original cover. Some examples of great ones are:

 The Spectacular Now
Hate me all you want, but they are gorgeous!!!

3. I hate quite a lot of really hyped books. Most of the time I really just hate the book, but a part of me always wonders if I would have enjoyed it a bit more if the hype hadn't given me such ridiculously high expectations. The biggest let downs for me were: Fangirl & Code Name Verity.

It depends on the type of crying you mean, there are quite a few.

A few tears:

This was nowhere near as sad as I thought it was going to be. I squeezed out a few tears but that was it.

A tiny puddle:

This was more: I AM IN SHOCK!!! crying. I just didn't see it coming, tiny sobs ensued. I was at work. It was embarrassing.

Uncontrollable sobbing:

Not sure this is a book you are supposed to sob uncontrollably at, but I did. Think it hit a personal nerve and I wept for about an hour. It was ugly.

Thankfully, I don't have one! If I did then I am sure it would be filled with them. Instead I just have piles of books on the floor for some reason or another. Some are library books I just borrowed, some are library books I want to return and some are books I have bought but haven't decided where they go on my bookshelf yet.

It seems strange to me, but I don't actually have one. If I read then I totally get consumed by it and can't concentrate on anything else. If I really get into a book then I won't eat for hours. When I finally get hungry then I go eat and then come back to reading, I never really eat whilst reading. Yes, that's partly because I can't risk getting any food on my book.

I have a lot that I would recommend but I have finally decided on these:

All the Harry Potter series because it is amazing and everyone needs to read it. Dangerous Girls because it's a total mind fuck of a boo and will keep you guessing write up until the final page. And Forbidden because it's unlike anything you have probably read or will ever read.

One shelf, that's funny!

You can have a picture of my favourite bookcase out of my four. The shelf with Harry Potter on would probably be my favourite, mainly because Harry Potter is on it!

They are everything.

When this goes live I will be in Dublin (look at me, scheduling ahead!), without internet, in a castle, at a wedding. So I won't really have time nor opportunity to tag people on Twitter or via the blog. So, to save time, I will just tag anyone and everyone. If you see this and want to do it then do!

FYI

Currently in Dublin with no internet. I'm at a castle, so I will be feeling like a Disney Princess right now in my pretty dress I'm wearing at this wedding. So, whilst I'll be having a fab, Disney day, I won't be able to reply to comments till I come back!

  1. What a fun post! If I have time I may have to do it. I cried a lot during The Fault in Our Stars so now I am worried for when I read We Were Liars and My Life Next Door!

    1. Haha, trust me on the fact that My Life Next Door isn't a book you should be crying at. I was clearly having an off day when I read that!

  2. I love that more and more people are doing this. It really is a lot of fun to read and see what everyone has to say.

  3. Ooh, a castle in Dublin? HAVE FUN BEING A DISNEY PRINCESS. Don't talk to any clocks you don't know.
Also: epic bookshelf! I really want to read Dangerous Girls, so so bad. You recommend it ALL THE TIME so, gosh, that's good enough for me. I'm compiling a christmas wishlist for my sister to peruse. (She rolls her eyes at me, so rude.) Your shelf is gorgeous too, by the way. I LOVE seeing other people's bookshelves. x)
I never lend books. I don't even lend them to my sister! WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME?? But I feel like they're a part of me, and what if they get wrecked or lost? I hesitantly leant Divergent to my mum but, like, she hadn't read it in 3 days, so I took it back. (She also rolls her eyes at me. What is it with my family???)

    1. I am so sorry, I talked to all the clocks I didn't know!

I hope when you read Dangerous Girls that you absolutely love it, it's a really fun read. And, if I am honest, I am beyond happy to find someone else who doesn't like lending books! Other people just don't know how to look after them right ;)

  6. That bed with the books all around it is awesome. I could just reach up and get a book to read. No room for my husband, though! I may have to do this one.

    1. I want it, haha! It's more of a lounging chair like bed I think, not one you sleep in. Although, knowing me, I would totally sleep in it.

  9. I absolutely despise mid-series cover changes as well! If you're going to change the cover, at least do it after all the books are out!

    1. I KNOW!!! Why they do this I am not sure? Maybe for crazy OCD book people like me, they know will spend more money buying the matching set.
